I'm sorry about your incubator, that sucks. I how some more quail survived. So sad. I went to make pip holes for my overdue silkie/showgirls and cornish bantams and saw they were shrink-wrapped. Flipping homemade styrobator loses humidity too quickly. I opened them up quickly but it was too late. All but one were dead, fully formed, yolks mostly absorbed, just couldn't pip out. And one was a gorgeous black showgirl! So no showgirls this time around.. The one cornish that's still alive is malpositioned, pipped at the wrong end, and keeps hitting blood vessels. Probably won't last the night. Which would leave me with a 3/20 hatch.
Also still have 12 quail eggs overdue. One popped out earlier today, one is pipped and rocking, but nothing from the other 11. Started with 32... Ugh. Hopefully I get more than 2/32 there.. Just about to give up on shipped eggs. The quail only came from Dayton, but the USPS rerouted them every way they could to ensure their demise.
Looks like I'm going to have to try to talk DH into the long drive up to Mt Hope (yeah right) if I can't find any good showgirls this weekend. If my lazy birds would get busy, I'd just start my own line with all the NN and silkies I have running around here! *fist shake*
Sorry to hear about your SO, Mandy. Hopefully it's worth the separation. And I agree, we chicken-folk will be here for you!My DH is planning on joining the Air Force once his US citizenship is finalized in a couple months and he'll be going away for boot camp for at least a couple months, probably more like half a year with the fields he's looking to train for. This after my dad served a couple tours in Iraq a few years ago and came back with PTSD..never been the same since. Ugh.
Kiddo would NOT go to sleep tonight, which is unlike him, and I'm sick as a dog. Bad night. Bad night. Short novel of a post.![]()
Oh man, that was a hoot! Just got home and got everyone sorted back into their houses and fed and watered and eggs collected. My two new beauties (thank you, Linda!!!) are in the guest quarters for the night and tomorrow I have to build another pen, whee!!!
It was so much fun meeting everyone -- Janalyn and Chickawawa and Chickadee and blessedchick. And minihorse, you snuck out too quick! By the way, Linda doesn't have silkies -- she has teddybears with feathers. Just the biggest, fluffiest silkies I've ever seen! Man, I came home and mine all look so scrawny in comparisonBy sheer luck we set up right next to each other and even at that we barely got a chance to chat :-( I didn't get nearly enough time to visit with anyone else either -- that was too quick! We need to do another meet-up sometime soon![]()
So, three people who've raised polish looked over my tolbunts and gave me three different opinions on sex... I tell ya, these birds are driving me crazy, lol! On the upside, though, I found new homes for thirteen of my chickens, only came home with two new ones, a bag of feed, and a full tank of gasso I'd call that a successful swap! Although resisting Chickawawa's icelandics was HAAAAARD!! The thought of building a whole new run and coop helped keep me in check, though... lol!
Linda, did you find where the baby chicks need to go?
The baby silkies/sizzles that are suppose to hatch the 8 can keep me company for the next 8+ weeks in the house at least.
Nice lady with blonde hair? She was parked next to us. Had a nice time talking to her. Glad she found a good home for him.
Sorry I missed you. We left around 2:30. Glad we went tho. Will definitely try to make it next year! Thanks to all who spent their time organizing it!
