If you breed them to a showgirl you can get more show girls. That's why i was going to let shay use my roo for her hen if she wanted. That way she coups get some more show girl chicks started before winter.

Just say your not incubating anything else this year and then they will all drop the eggs. That's what happened here. Grow out pen had 6 eggs in it today!

see, it works! The grow out pen of course is mixed so I'm not hatching anything from it but it did work. The layers are going full force. Some are still even putting out a good number of eggs while molting!
mine typically don't lay while molting

None of mine are molting yet -- I don't get it. It's going to be December and I'm going to have naked chickens!

cluckitall, I'm like you. Since end of aug-first of Sept i've gotten about 3-4 eggs a week from one copper maran. Then last week my banties started laying, 2-4 in a week. Day before yesterday I went out and collected 7, (yes, I said 7!!!) eggs, and yesterday I collected 4!!, and only one so far today. That is amazing for me. They were slow all summer and the ones I got from murray mc the first of june haven't even started to lay! Hopefully the end of the month!!

Do they need any more heat than the others? I mean how do they winter? We are going to make a hoop/green/showgirl/silkie house.

It will be heated by a small wood stove that we will keep a little heat in, also with a brick floor to hold heat. I'm going to try to grow a few carrots and maybe some other garden items in there. I also ferment my feed, so I'm going to try to keep it in there. So, an all purpose hoop house!

Then when spring comes, we will have another building that we are moving here to use as a permanent coop for them. They will have their own special coop. PM me with the cost of the showgirl eggs.
