OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

For you that have raised silkies, is it common for them to have a little head shake tic? I just noticed this behavior. Three of the four are doing it. They are acting normal, eating and drinking. Is this something I should be concerned about?
give them some vitamins and electrolytes. if you can, use vitamins E,D, and selenium. also, if your using medicated starter it might be best to switch. amprolium can block some vitamin absorption.

A good one would be to add Polyvisol WITHOUT IRON to their water for a week, than switch to the electrolyte/vit mix in their water for a week. This usually takes care of it. If it is a pronounced tic and doesn't resolve or worsens over the next week or so, get some Vit E and Selenium capsules to break open and administer to them. Are they in with a group of older/LF chicks? Silkies are very prone to head injury if pecked on their heads - their skull is open just like a human baby. Keep those bitty brains protected

! Keep us posted as to how they are doing!

Thanks loveourbirds, minihorse and blessedchick. I will get the polyvisol. And it is medicated feed. They are in a brooder by themselves, so no other ones. I don't put the babies in with older chicks until they are about 8-10 weeks old, or at least can hold their own. The silkies are going to be in a coop by themselves, though. Baby Huey, (the larger and older one

) and one of the buffs are chest butting alot. I don't notice them pecking at each other. It isn't real pronounced. and not constant, but it is still there. I had to watch them for a couple of minutes this morn before I noticed it again. I thought maybe it was gone. But I only noticed sg and baby huey.

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has any pullets that they need to get rid of. I am looking to add to my flock of 4-5 month old layers. I want a nice, pretty breed that lays well. Thanks!

minihorse, if it makes a difference for you - i can help you get things together for winter. i dont have a huge amount of time, but i can give you a good day's labor.

The only thing I've got to do before winter is to tarp over a couple of the open windows on the back side of the barn. I'm not selling these ones she to weather. I've just decided I need to cut down breed wise. I'm not going to have enough room to build pens for ask these different breeds. I'm only selling the AM pullets because they are just not what I want to keep for show birds and I want to work on these chocolate AM and want the best blue/black that I cab get my hands on. This also means I'm going to nationals to buy Ameraucanas. :D
