OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Do you have any neighbors who dislike chickens? We just had a friend who lost 8 chickens in one night, no cause she could find but when she had necropsies done- all had poison in them. I am not sure what kind but whatever it was the cops questioned the neighbors and traced the poison to one grumpy one. He also poisoned their two dogs (little ones, he called them yip yaps).

Oh my goodness! That poor person, and animals! Some people just don't deserve the oxygen they breathe.. Thankfully my only neighbors are elderly family who are used to the farm life and love the chickens. Except for one cousin next door we don't really get along with, but they are getting chickens of their own and I can't imagine they'd do anything so horrid even though they don't like us.

Does anyone in the columbus area have 2 marans or 2 E.E. that are already laying that I could buy from you?

i have 2 EE cockerels i will give you, just come and get them. they are about 4 1/2 to 5 months old.

I just read it and I love it! I'll get there one day.

it has been tons of fun. i will admit its starting to seem alot like "work" now. i still look forward to visiting my chickens each day. with the move and everything, its hard to find much time to spend with them. im looking forward to spring, im hoping i can throw together a really nice hatch area/brooder system. ill probably build them into the barn when i put it back together.

you haven't updated us yet, have you figured out what is going on? before i would guess illness - i would look at feed/water issues, the gestation period of this seems way to fast to be illness - but not impossible.

I still don't know what happened sadly. I thought the same. Water should be fine. They have a large tub of fresh water at all times. They're all getting enough food and not thin by any means, but I am trying to look into nutritional facts. Although this generic feed is meant to be a complete feed, maybe they're not getting something they need. :idunno

Crops definitely full. I don't do grit right now since they only get crumble. And they're extremely messy, lol, but everything gets eaten.
Correction, on special occasions when they get leftover or treats (bread, fruit, etc), they do get grit also. It's cockatiel grit, but I imagine it works the same way.

They probably pick up sand, rocks and bits from the run area. I'll see if I can find larger quantities of grit though to give them more regularly. Where do you get yours?
