OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Sadly my sweet little Silver Ameraucana Chippie, succumbed to the cold last night.
Chippie was the only egg to hatch from my first attempt at incubating. Sh was so tiny.
Chippie was a chatterbox, who loved to cuddle & would jump into my lap each afternoon when the girls would free range.
I never knew I could love a little chicken soooooo much.

sorry for your loss, it is amazing how big of a bond a person can have with their chickens.

we have some sick and losses from the temperature changes too. all we can do is try our best.

Thanks guys. :hugs

So sorry for your loss, farmerswife! :hugs And yours Brian. Of course it always has to be the favorites that don't make it.. :C I lost one of my favorite little sebrite roos last night to the cold, too. He was an outcast with the rest of the flock and I guess they wouldn't let him close enough to share body heat.

im thinking about putting snow chains on my tires and driving south until someone asks me what the chains are for. when they dont know what snow chains are, im thinking that would be a good place to live!

really i love the snow, but i like clear roads too

That sounds like a plan. :gig I know what you mean..the backroads around here (aka the only roads lol) are awful. Last year I durn near ran down 2 cops and crashed into a firetruck going down Lucasville-Minford Rd. :p

No clue what time we'll be up there tomorrow, by the way. The poor car wouldn't even start tonight, DH has had the battery charging for hours. Hopefully we'll be good to go by morning. I'll give you a heads up before we leave though. :)

This is my white silkie hen that went broody the day after Thanksgiving (November 29th) and she was born this past spring and of course not a year old yet and she is sitting on 5 silkie eggs and her hatch day is December 19th and I'm gonna get a tarp to put over the pen so the chicks feet are not in the snow but all you buckeyes know how cold and brutal Ohio winter can be and I'm just hoping the chicks are gonna do good with there momma hen:fl
good luck :)

thanks to shaybaby i have now been able to close down one lean-to on my shed. im also down to 50 lbs of feed a day on feeding!

i kind of feel like ive been a victim of the show "hoarders" and my chicken house has been cleaned for me. it's kind of hard to see how the number has dropped, and i do miss some of what ive sold - especially the silkies. i just have to keep reminding myself, its all part of a bigger project. and for now its keeping my wife happy, as when i work she sometimes has to take care of all of them by herself.

And thanks to Brian I'm +7 and 2 halves (and a little over a dozen "fractions") chicken-richer! :D It was too late to sort out who goes where tonight so tonight they are all staying in the house (brooder room) and dining on a snack of hard boiled eggs. Thank you again! :weee
