OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I think she would--so far she's a terrific broody but it's only day six:) She acts pretty territorial and makes the velociraptor growls but I lifted her up tonight because the two D'Uccles keep laying their little, infertile eggs next to her which she scoops up and grabs as belonging to her...
As far as candling goes though...I have no idea what to look for and my Marans eggs are pretty dark so not sure I'd be able to see much of anything. If you're in the neighborhood feel free to stop by and you can show me how!! :)
When are your egglets scheduled to hatch? How fun! How exciting!

Oops. Didn't realize how long I was away from the thread! Just caught up on about 7 pages.

I'm so excited and didn't really have anyone else to brag to who would care. I had my first hens go broody about a week ago! Old news to most folks I know lol. Ironically, the two who went broody on the same day are sisters - buff brahma bantams. They both lasted a day before they gave up for a couple days .. trial run, I guess.

Which was just as well, because after they got up, I realized one was sitting on air, and the other was sitting on 3 golf balls and a fake egg.

Couple days later, they were back at it. As adorable as they are, I'm only getting about an egg a day now instead of the usual 6 or 7 because the girls are stealing most of them to sit on! My boys have been very, ahem..active, so I've been incubating all winter, but none of the many dozens of eggs have been fertile. So I thought I'd be buying feed store babies for these two come hatch time. But I quickly candled a few tonight and they were fertile!!

So if all goes well, I might have you guys play "guess that mutt" with me in a few weeks.

I've managed to avoid TSC and other feed store babies so far, as much as I've been in there. Saw Cornish Rocks, Light Brahmas and white Silkies (terrible, awful, awful quality) at TSC today. Visited TSC a few days ago and they had about a dozen Tetra Tints and Pekin ducklings left. I asked the guy there about mixing chicks and ducks (say, 4 chicks to 2 ducks), since their sign clearly reads "a minimum of 6 BIRDS". He was adamant they couldn't do that. ..Yeah, right. Also was adamant it was state law. I'll stick with the little local feed store where you can mix and match whatever the heck you want, and take as few as one.. Anyways, I stepped to the side to discuss how many TTs I wanted to get with DH and stepped back to an empty brooder. Saw some lady with the lot of them at the checkout counter.. Probably just as well..my 27 Meyer babies are eating me out of house and home lol. They're almost 5 weeks old now. These pics were about a week ago.

And it looks like, so far, only one of my "pullets" is an imposter. One of the RIRs (I think). Not bad out of 27.

These silkies are from eggs I hatched for my grandsons. They have a white rooster, partridge hen, black hen and 4 light gray hens. We don't know much about silkies. They sure are cute!

Hey Shay! Good to hear from you again! Hopefully your broodies do good! Haven't had any broodies yet but I don't have a rooster so hopefully they won't! :D

Hey everyone! I've been on a winter hiatus but I'll be around more from now on. I've for some exciting news to share but I'll do it later. I'm glad to see some new faces and some old still.

Awwww, look at all the babies! I ordered 15ancona ducklings and 5 black Swedish and 5 blue Swedish ducklings for April 21. Excited to get some more anconas as last years hatches turned out 3 drake and 1 hen. I'll be back later to catch up!

It is state law to purchase 6 birds but there its bring that says you can't mix & match ducks and chickens. That guy needs to go re watch his training. Sorry TSC treated you that way shay. We've got TT here if you want some!
