OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hi, new to this site, new to raising chickens and new to Ohio. We just moved to Brown county all the way from Massachusetts and have decided to start raising chickens for eggs and meat. We've ordered some chicks from Meyers hatchery, they should arrive in a few days, and a friend just offered us a rooster. He's a handsome bird and we agreed to take him but they aren't sure what breed he is and being new to this I figured I'd get some opinions. I'm leaning towards a Rhode Island Red or maybe a New Hampshire red, but not 100% sure. Thanks in advance, already loving this site!

Kinda hard to tell from the photo, but appears to maybe have a pea comb, with the dark legs and color, might be some sort of easter egger, or a cross there of.

All i have left in silkies is a splash roo and a black roo. I sold the rest. My Guineas are all hens (how'd i manage that) so i need a roo but want a chocolate, royal purple, or coral blue. Not having much luck, I'm too picky. The Guineas are not ad bad as i imagined. I imagined then to be noisy, annoying, and on the roof of my house all the time. Instead they have been the watch dogs of the chicken run. They never go far from the pen, I've caught them on the house once and after throwing a rock at them they've never went back up there. Of they are making noise they are out of food/ water/our there is something back there. They have been awesome hawk deterrents

It's been my experience, if your guineas co mingle with your chickens, that a all female group of guineas, causes much less drama and stress to the rest of the flock.

I would not do without a handful of guineas keeping look out among my birds, but came to the realization many years ago that mature male guineas where just too aggressive, and caused a lot of unnecessary unrest and stress among the general population. I have opted to get eggs or chicks, and just keep the resulting females, when I need to replace some of the old girls.

Well, the spot is measured for the new barn and I've got gravel coming next week or the week after depending upon how dry the ground is. Excited to get this new breeding barn started!

Anyone interested in 6+ pure grey call duck eggs? My trio from last year that I've had separated all winter is laying like crazy and I'm going to confirm fertility on them tomorrow. I'm going to offer them up on either the just in time hatching auction or the 24 hour hatching egg auction if they're fertile.
