Not bad for shipped eggs chicken farmer! I've got 10 the broody hatched of 12 eggs. I pawned 3 more chicks off on her tonight that were incubator chicks. I've got 3 more in the incubator and 5 I believe pipped.

I hatched some ohiki, ohiki/chocolate orpington bantam cross, ohiki/cochin cross, a single porcelain d'uccle, swedish flowers, and I am still waiting on another ohiki/orpington, 2 svart hona and 2 sfh.

Congrats on the babies! Not a bad hatch rate. I have heard nightmare stories about shipped eggs. You must've done everything right.

Does anybody know of any black australorp breeders in ohio? Would like to stay within a couple of hours of nw ohio/se michigan but would possibly travel farther if need be. Looking for some chicks that my son can use for 4h in August. Thanks for any info in advance.

Meyer Hatchery in Polk carries black australorps but those are hatchery stock. Not sure of any actual breeders.

We are getting our first Light Brahma chick in March but I am already planning on more when we get land. Everyone but our EE has at least some small degree of frostbite on their combs :( Our coop is very well ventilated and insulated, I think they get it on cold windy mornings.
