OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Wow. Really? All our birds stay over winter (unless they are unneeded). We just breed our own show and 4-H birds. However, I know from experience the difficulty of winter XD

I am so glad we did it. We put one of those light fixtures with a plug receptacle up on the ceiling so we can have both the heat lamp and the heated waterer at the same time. Then I put up a small drawer handle up there so in summer I can attach a clip on fan to help keep the air circulated when it's hot.

I like that idea a lot. I'll have to write that down.

@minihorse927 I keep thinking about getting coturnix when I have more room. Are they a good bird to have?

@Alexandra33 I like going to Upper very much. We go up for the pumpkin patch and Hope Clinic. I only ever buy my pumpkins up there and haven't been disappointed. I have one on my steps right now from last year. I'm both impressed and disturbed that it is still in good shape. The one before it lasted until the following summer.

mine are fairly friendly but I've handled them a lot. They lay an egg every day, sometimes twice a day. I've butchered out 14 so far with more in a couple weeks and they are easy to clean and butcher, make a lot of meat and cost me less than $1 each to raise. They don't require a lot of space and are not super noisy wit the males being the loudest having their little crowing contests. Unhandled they tend to be flighty and willing to take off but mine are happy sticking around me.
