Birds are doing well here too. Just getting started laying after molt and it's a bumpy start. 9 month old pullets have just started to lay but they are good. Not been really cold or snowy yet so getting plenty of run time.

Ugh, spoke too soon, the inside coop waterer is leaking, going to have to investigate and see what's up. Hopefully it just needs scrubbing.

Well solar rope light isn't bright enough, so I am going to use the coop light for the last hour of their day. Guess the rope light will go around patio.Finally going to look into getting new layers ordered, been crazy busy and it's going to get worse this week with starting classes 3x's a week.

And to top it off, the guys that use our barn never roofed the coop as they promised. So hubby and I tried to cover the coop and run with plastic held down with cement blocs. Well, guess what, it's majorly windy, so the stuff is all blown around and bunched up and only covering part of it. Grrr. I did find a large tarp with tie down holes, but it's way too windy to try and put that up. As soon as we can, though, I plan to put the tarp over the coop and tie it down to large eyebolts that are attached to the bottom frame. The chickens are not thrilled and won't come out of the run, lol.

Big Medicine, I agree with you. Cold and snow I can happily do without. Makes ones arthritis worse, ugh.

We are getting the cold, snowy blustery weather here in SE Ohio as well. The girls and the new babies didn't venture out of the coop much, but theory are still laying, so not complaining..

Same up north. Didn't think the girls would want to go out, but open their door anyway. One came out and turned right around and went back in. Then 2 stuck their head out and went back in. Mine are still laying good also.
Gave them some scratch grain and a section of straw to pass their time.

There first sight of snow and wind today. Opened the coop and they were afraid to come out. they slid a little down the steps and turned around and went back in. I threw scratch out but they wouldn't come out. I did throw some in the coop and they loved having it inside. I went in the run and kicked up the straw so there was no snow on the ground and eventually they made their way out. Tonight it will be the coldest night they faced yet so keeping my fingers crossed.
