OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Really bummed out right now. Went to close the coop up for the night, and found 2 dead birds on the lawn. Both warm, one missing its head. The new sapphire roo is missing too. Think its either a coon(missing head), or a fox(number of poultry missing). Not sure how to rid myself of the fox.

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like a weasel or mink, due to the missing head and number killed. Please check for holes in your coop ASAP. If it is one and they have a way to them they will kill until no birds are left. Good luck and again so sorry you are going through this.
8f you can set a trap outside .

Well, count is as high as 5.
My sapphire cockrell must have tried to get involved. He is gone. I found 2 white feathers on the lawn this morning. Also found another hen without her head, and one survivor of the attack, but I do not think she is going to make it. I suspect internal injuries. There are no outer wounds. What else would kill 2 7 lb chickens without any wounds. That says to me they were crushed?
Ive also come face to face with that d@mn fox twice. He avoids all my traps and seems to know when I'm waiting with my crossbow undercover.

For future reference, I have found skinning a dead bird which has died of suspicious causes can often reveal a lot. Such as bite marks, talon marks, or bruising that may otherwise go unnoticed, to give you more of an idea of what went down

My Welsummer laid her first egg today. Right in the middle of the coop. My DH was in there giving them some scratch and I think he startled her. She squatted as soon as he came and just laid it. LOL Poor girl was probably a bit surprised!
