Welcome Swish from Wapakoneta! Sounds like you are getting what we call chicken math here. You go to get 10 and bring home 25. They are very addictive. Please if you haven't heard yet rule of thumb is 4sq. ft per bird inside and 10 sq. ft. per bird outside.

Thanks cabinchicky! We have had our original hens (4 ISA Browns) for about a year. However, we found that chickens are addicting and went back to the store for more. We now have 13 hens and 2 ducks. We have 5 ISA Browns, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Black Australorps, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 1 Buckeye. Our two ducks are both Khaki Campbells. We love them all and the fresh eggs! Here is a picture of my favorite chicken (a Buff Orpington) named Moo Cow.

Hello there fellow Ohioans! I live in Wood County out in the country. We have a variety of breeds, my favorites being the Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers. (Even though the Easter Eggers aren't a breed I still like them and call them a breed.) I hope to have some great chicken conversations on this forum.

henny1129 please keep an eye on the khakis if they are in with your chickens. I rescued a pair last spring/summer and when they were large enough to join the flock they turned very aggressive. they would each go one on a side of a chicken and try to force the chickens'head down into water, drowning it attempt. I found a new home for them ASAP! I have heard the khakis are not a friendly bunch to chickens after the matter of trying to home them here. So please watch them. They went after the more timid chickens I have.

Thank you for the heads up! Fortunately we have a large fenced in area for our chickens and the ducks have a separate coop on the other side of the fence, this way they can't get to the chickens.

Oh thank goodness you have em separate! I have read on a thread here somewhere you can mix some breeds of ducks with chickens I just need to find it again and write it somewhere.

Hi fellow Ohioans. I am from Findlay area. We just bought our first set of chicks. I told my husband I was only going I get three. I now have 7, and want to get a Silkie too. I'm wondering if I get a Silkie now, and raise her with my standard size chicks, will she get picked on. Anyone one with experience? I got two Buff Orpingtons, 2 Easter Eggers, 2 ISA Browns, and one Barred Plymouth Rock. They are all supposed to be pullets, but we will see. We have an 8x8 shed we are converting into a coop, and making a covered run at least 16'x8'.

Sounds like you have a nice start on a flock & great plans for your coop & run.
