OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hello fellow Buckeyes! Im in Geauga County, NE Ohio. We have 19 chickens, 7 turkeys (5 of which are for sale), and 2 dogs. We also raise hogs in the summer and may do cows this year. Thanks to all of you who directed me to the Ohio corner of the site!
I’m in Chesterland! Howdy neighbor!

We just began our chicken raising and homestead journey this past Summer on the Northern edge of Licking County.
Coming from a mild climate we are challenged with frozen water. How do you keep your chickens watered. We have one heater base but it does not seem to be working well.
So I add water when I go out but of course what they do not drink just freezes.

It sounds like your base isn't working properly. Pictures of your setup if it's DIY could be helpful. If it's store bought and not working I would complain to the store and or manufacturer.
If you have to you can switch out waterers throughout the day. Bring in a frozen one to let it thaw and exchange it for a liquid filled waterer. That can be time consuming and quite the workout depending on how far the coop is.
To help water not freeze as quickly you can put a sealed bottle of saltwater in the waterer with the fresh water. Because salt water freezes at a lower temperature it can help keep the fresh water from freezing as quickly as it normally would. Of course you don't want your birds drinking salt water.
People swear by ping pong balls in the waterer. The idea that as the ball moves it keeps the water from freezing. With that same idea an aquarium bubbler would accomplish the same thing.

I personally go for a heated water.

We swap drinkers for Folgers coffee tubs, those get swapped as needed for fresh. We drag 5 gallon buckets of water out to tend 11 stalls/coops... winter sucks... can't wait for the water line to get installed...

I'll be in the market for a nice quality Bourbon Red Tom turkey and widely built, dark laying Black Copper Marans next season. Anyone know anyone anywhere near SW Ohio? Could do it from shipped eggs come March. Could trade, our Blue Birchen Marans are turning out pretty nice, as are the existing Bourbon Reds and Narragansett turkeys. I'll get spendy for quality though! The last batch of BCMs I bought were disappointing and I only have 1 decent hen. With how the girls are laying, I should remove that rooster too since I don't know the egg color he hatched from.

My Blue Birchens have far better egg color and type, and I thought it was going to be the other way around!

I have never bought from her but reportedly great birds and super dark eggs.
