OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I live in the Country in Ohio. It is beautiful. I know someone who is growing inside an apartment. If you have a porch you might be interested in patio/dwarf food producing trees. I haven't owned one but plan to in the future. They stay potted forever by what I've read you just have to up pot as need every few years. You may also be interested in Coturnix Quail and/or Cochin Bantam Chickens. I don't own Cochin Bantams but they need very litter room and produce many eggs for their size. I do own Coturnix Quail, they only need about ~1 sq ft per bird or less depending on your goal. If you just want egg laying pets then I think the standard size is best because they lay an average of 300 eggs per year (3-4 of these eggs makes on large chicken egg). They also only eat an average of 1.5 oz a day. If you want for meat and egg production than Jumbos are best. My Shire Jumbo Wild when mature (in ~8 weeks) weight 14 oz. They eat 2 oz a day, have basically the same room requirements, have 280 eggs per year (If I remember right 2-3 Jumbo quail eggs is equal to one large chicken egg), but live on average quite a bit shorter than standard size. That's why I own standard size as my pets. Their is even blue egging Coturnix Quail called Celedon (they have most of the same patterns of an average Coturnix and look the same except the hens lay blue eggs, some with speckles and the higher end ones without, I like both looks though). I hope this was helpful to you.

Will anyone in northeast Ohio be selling Cornish X chicks in the early fall? I just need 4-6 chicks and the shipping for that few chicks is just way too high. I thought about driving to Meyer Hatchery, but their pickup times are 9-4:30 and I am switching jobs and don't know what my availability will be at that time.

Please message me if you will be hatching Cornish X chicks in September.
Have you checked TSC or Rural King? I have seen Cornish Rocks and possibly Cornish Cross their.

Did you try TSC?

TSC has a 10 bird minimum. I can't have that many because my city has a limit on how many we can keep.

...Unless someone in NE Ohio would be willing to split the 10 chicks with me! I would buy the 10 and then sell 5 to you for whatever price I bought them for. That takes a lot of trust though lol.

Anyone know of any small feed stores in NE Ohio that sell meat chicks in the late summer/fall?

Essentially I'm just trying to keep meat birds from being waaaaay more money than they are worth because of the shipping cost. $50 shipping for 5 birds is crazy to me.

It is 6 in-store near me still, but it doesn't seem they ever stock Cornish X birds. So I went on their website to see if I could order some online to have them delivered to the store, and the smallest amount you can get is 10. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...chicken-sold-in-quantities-of-10?cm_vc=-10005

It doesn't make much sense.

Do you have a Rural King near you? That's where I saw the Cornish Rocks for sale. At least the Rural King I've been to has a larger selection of birds than TSC.

Thanks for the suggestion! I figured we didn't have a Rural King around since I've never seen one, but it turns out there is one is Elyria. I will look into this.
