We have three beautiful, 3-year-old hens that we are forced to rehome because we are moving and cannot take them with us. We are heartbroken about it, but we do not have a choice. All three were hatched on April 17, 2022, and have been in our care since. All received MRK Marek's (HVT) vaccinations and there have been zero health or behavioral issues with any of them, other than one being mildly aggressive with me (pecking at me) when I haven't given her enough treats!

They've been on a diet of mostly commercial pellets, subsidized with kitchen and lawn scraps and chicken treats. The breeds are Green Queen, Blue Splash Marans, and BNVF Barnevelder-- all chosen for Northern Ohio's climate, temperament, and egg production. All are strong layers-- giving us 4-5 eggs each, per week during prime time. Pictures are attached.

If you are interested in taking them in, please contact me. They will be available for pickup next week-- we want at least one more week with them :( . Also, I would like to know your experience and your intentions for housing and caring for them, please.

Hello ClevelandRick,

I've been taking in roosters/hens that need rehoming. My intentions are to allow for them to live out their normal lives, without fear of being served at the dinner table. So, I offer myself as a last resort, if you can not find anywhere/one else offering to take them in. if you require further information, DM me.

Thank you! You don't know what a relief it is to know they will end up somewhere safe! I'll continue to keep the request open for others, and I have posted in a couple of local FB groups. I will let you know within a week or so if I've had any success or if I need "the last resort!" Again, thank you. We've been having anxiety about this for a while.

Alot of us know about the anxieties this particular situation causes. All of our chickens and ducks are pets to us and are spoiled as much as possible.

Hi, new member from Wellsville (South of Youngstown, west of Pittsburgh).

We have 8 girls 2-Silver laced, 1 Black Star, 3 leghorns, one sapphire Gem, 1 auracauna, 1 roo (Rhode island red and auracauna mix) in the main coop.

We have 7 barnyard mixes in the brooder that are almost 5 weeks old and getting ready to be moved out.

We may be looking to rehome a roo or two in the next few months, we are waiting to see how this last hatch shakes out. But we think we got at least a couple and our current boy will not be happy with other roos around I am pretty sure and if I read right, you should not mix brothers and sisters if you plan on hatching chicks.

Anyway, thought I would say hi to my fellow buckeyes.

ClevelendRick,
We have room if you can't find somebody close to home to take them. I don't really need them, but would take care of them. We raise for eggs, not meat and have a couple acres they can run on (when supervised). Currently adding a new run for the babies, but have a 4x6 coop and 10x20 enclosed run for the grownups, a 30 x 50 open run (thinking of covering this due to a recent hawk attack), and another 10x15 closed run and small coop for the new babies.

PM Me if you need us to take them, we could possibly meet half way as I believe we are a couple hours south of you.

Dave
