Ohio National....Who's all going?

I wish I would've made plans to go to this earlier

I just found out about it a few days ago. I'm 3 1/2 hrs away and can't leave til early tomorrow morning. I'm only looking for Lav Silkies or Lav/Split Silkies. Probably will be gone if they are starting to sell them today

Not sure what to do now

I don't go until Saturday when not showing, and the sale pens are full...so I wouldn't sweat it too much...

Another good way to get some good qulity breeders is to wait until the judging is done, and start asking around the show for those birds that just didn't make the cut, and the owner don't feel like draging them home. A lot of the birds come in on air freight, so it's cheaper to just sell those that don't show as well I think. Just some scratch for thought.

Just plan to make a day of it...lol They start in pretty early, but that's a LOT of birds to judge! I don't think birds can be removed until Sunday though, so you may have to plan accordingly if a deal is struck for birds being shown to either have them picked up by antoher if you can't make it, or perhaps catch someone that goes your way home and can drop them off on the way through. It's a tricky bit, but when you find that perfect bird, it can be worth the hassle.

Well maybe I'll give it a go and drive out. I've never been to one before. I'll have to look on the site to get more info about it so I don't look like an idiot lol. Can we look at the chickens while they are judging so I can find what I'm looking for ahead of time & make an offer if they don't do well with the show? I'm getting excited!

They do the judging one row at a time, and they will close that row while judging is going on. Just don't cross any ropes and you will be fine. With 600+ sale pens, I would imagine you can find most of what you are looking for...especially silkies...not to hard to track them down. Some of less comming breeds can be a little tricky, but you should find what you are looking for...

I went down this afternoon to pickup a couple of birds I had pre-arranged to purchase. This is my first time attending but the sale area was HUGE. A few had "wall space' where it looks like they may have just provided their own pens and stacked them what seemed to the rafters. I left around 5 PM and there were still quite a few empty coops both show and sale. I did see several "sold" signs but plenty of birds still available. While I was tempted by a few, I left with only the "pre-arranged" birds and my ex bought two feed bowls totalling $5. They didn't even charge for parking today (first time ever!) and there wasn't a fee to get in so I actually spent less than I intended!

Have fun everyone!
