OK Chime in opinions requested

Same here. It was a personal choice they made. It's not as though a tornado ripped through the town, destroying everything. I guess they will have to buckle down now.

You have to have lived in Philly to understand! We are die hard fans..no exceptions..We have a reputation (not always good) but we take our sports very very seriously. I agree the kids knew there was a test coming up so they should have spoken to you about the possiblity of maybe changing things but you will never keep a Phillies fan from celebrating ecspecially on such a momentus occasion. (tell them that they knew what the consequences would be, they are adults). I live in Georgia now and believe me my neighbors (all Braves fans) new we won! YEA PHILLIES! Now only if the Eagles and Flyers would do something besides break our hearts.

I don't think anyone has said they shouldn't have celebrated, just that they should have used some common sense in doing it. It's fine to be excited that your team won....you don't have to get plastered to do that....or stay up all night partying.

Yes, I agree with the rest that you did the right thing. This is the real world, not kindergarten where everyone gets a gold star for being "almost right". When these people are drs., lawyers, stock brokers, who will suffer if they can't do their work the way they're supposed to because they celebrated a bit too much last night? They need to know where their responsibility lies.

what kind of message would that be sending to the kids who missed out on the partying because they wanted to do well on the test?

edited to add: LOL@gold star for being almost right !

I just noticed that too! That is Luau, he is Snowballs son and they are identical. Love the looks on their faces!
I just asked my 6th graders your question and they agree, if they have to do their homework when the Mexican Soccer Team Chivas is playing then college students do too.

NO Way!!! They have to realize that in the REAL WORLD, you don't get mulligans, second chances, etc. You are judged by your actions and if you don't want to get a good grade and do something with your life, then Party and take the consequences. I agree the ones that did NOT party and acted responsibly, got a good grade and deserved it. The party animals got hammered and they deserved the grade they earned! You grade according to the questions and the answers given. They knew the game was coming up and they knew the test was coming up and should have studied before the game day!

Mom always said, I can raise you and give you advice and it is up to you to choose what you do with your life. It does not mean I always agree with your decisions, but you made your bed, lay in it! If you give them a do-over, you are not TEACHING them anything except that the biggest whiner gets rewarded and gets to party at the same time. Not a fair assessment on life, sometimes true but not fair.

You can tell them you appreciate thier honesty about why they did poorly on the mid-term and tell them they have half a semester to get that grade raised up. You can cut them a break on future assignments if you feel all warm and fuzzy about helping them get it raised up, but no do overs.

College = not kids any longer.

Consequences for your Actions is something many young adults have never experienced.

They knew the mid-term exam was being given. They chose to be hung over.

Stick to your guns. Don't give in to the pressure. They will learn a very dear lesson out of this if they are serious about their studies.

If they are floating through on Daddy's money then they will learn the lesson the hard way in the real world and will be more sorry for it then.

And, sadly, some of them will never learn.

I live not too far from Philly. I enjoyed watching them win. I did not get drunk celebrating and not take care of my children and chores, because I am an ADULT. The same goes for these college students. They are ADULTS, and need to be responsible the same as anyone else.
