Ok how close is too close? Rooster behavioralists?

Here he is tied out I keep giving him one last chance out of deference to my wife. I won't be carving him up either for the same reason.

We both agree this is his last chance a day of tie out and me coming by whenever I feel and either petting him or just being nice in general when he is so vulnerable. I'm tired of his sassy attitude and hit and run tactics. I am the only member of the household this thing attacks, but in 2 weeks it will be shorts not jean season any longer and I don't feel it is worth loosing blood with this jerk.

I find it odd that you are the one he attacks. The only mean rooster I ever had never attacked my husband, but that thing hated me. I thought most roosters knew that men weren't scared of them, so they behaved differently. Mine knew I was scared of him, until the day I decided I wasn't scared of him.

I mostly just ignore all of mine. I don't mind to step around one if he's in my path. I also don't mind shoo'ing him out of the way sometimes. They mostly part like the Red Sea when I walk around anyway. I always keep in mind that one "can" attack at any moment, but I think ignoring them has been the best method for me.

Great advice so far, you sound like you've got this handled.

I'd like to mention for anyone else reading this that crowing whilst they are by you can be innocent and it can be threatening. There is a distinct difference and I wish I could describe it but I can't. So, don't go chasing a nice rooster around just because he crowed, and don't think that hulking evil giant over there crowing has all butterflies and daisies in his head either, if that makes sense. You have to watch the birds and find that distinction out for yourself.

I have a perverse theory about that. I haven't showered yet today. Personally I think I need to wash my nethers before going outside. That or they just challenge their primary keeper for dominance.

I am not in the least bit afraid of him, and I think they all realize that the dogs will tear them up, and are able to run them down. Why me? Not a clue in the world as I am the meat eater in the human clan. I do not coddle or cuddle these guys in the least. @WVduckchick

Oh heck, I didn't mean to imply that you were afraid of him. I just meant it was in my brain that they would likely be less aggressive with men in general. I don't question your manliness, and I do apologize for how that sounded.

It actually just adds another point that "all roosters are different".

You're safe,they can't smell. You could courtesy shower just to see if it helps they do have incredible eyesight.
