Ok, Small, quiet, friendly ducks? Do they exist?

Yeah I've heard they can be quite....amorous. I think I will probably go with two muscovy ducks. I ran into someone who raises them and has both ducklings and adults would take a drake back and trade me if we don't want one of each sex. I think the girls would like the experience of raising the ducklings, but we have a female only flock in our backyard right now.
Good decision now don't forget to post back with pics when you get them..

Muscovy ducks are quiet, but the Drakes are HUGE! About the size of a medium-sized goose. I also heard they don't lay to many eggs as they are seasonal layers?
Yes, the drakes are big my 1yo i swear is 15lbs yes, i do lift him now & again when need arises lol I found mine to be pretty decent layers continuing through the winter months.

That sounds ideal! I think you'll enjoy them, i like our hens.. always peeping and wagging at us. My boys are ok too but that definitely opens up er.. new challenges? LOL

i have 4 muscovies, 2 ducks and 2 drakes. my drakes are much friendlier than my ducks for whatever reason but they are still young, about 10 weeks i think. they are huge, the drakes are the size of my LF hens already and they are scared of the ducks

. i cannot hear them at all except when one of the girls pulls a feather on one of the boys and he squeals. they eat from my hand, they nibble at my toes and try to chew on my clothes like a goat. i really like them for the most part. i have downsized in the chicken department to make room for more ducks. oh, just watch the claws on the scovies. ouch!

They are so many good breeds.

I do like my pekins, they are kind of loud though. They are really good layers and really friendly. Here is a pic of one.

I really like the cayugas too. They are not loud, I only have one and she is pretty shy, and are good layers. Also if you get want to get a boy and girls, and want to hatch some eggs but can't do it your self, this is a good choice. Mine went broody today and is sitting on 10 eggs. Here is a pic taken today.

I don't know if they are all like that, but my khaki campbells have been really small (I've only had two though). Mine have been really quiet and are supposed to be really good layers (my first one did get to full size, but never did lay)

The one on the other side is my khaki campbell, she didn't get much bigger than that.

Depending on how much you want you can always get a mixed flock, I usually don't get anymore than one of one breed because I like to be able to tell them apart.

Those are just a few breeds. Sorry, I haven't had any of the really small breeds because I tend to avoid any duck that can fly.

I can't wait for my hen to hatch what she is sitting on! Nothing like a bunch of little fuzz balls running around lol

Muscovy ducklings are the cutest ducklings ever! I love those babies!

Anyone have any guesses to what the colors might be on those ducklings as they age? Three are very dark. I *think* the drake is a solid chocolate.
