I just retired after teaching in public schools for over 30 years. What the teacher did broke ALL the rules of internet safety. We always had to get permission before we could post students' photos and/or names on our school website - and even stricter regulations for an outside website. After getting written permission, the teacher should've used names like (student1, student 2, student 3, etc.) and with no identifying information whatsoever. To put full names and location was dangerous. And for the VP and Principal not to take your complaints seriously was awful school/parent communication and failure to recognize an obvious safety hazard.

You did not over-react. I'm always amazed at how inept and stupid some adults can be. You did the right thing - absolutely!

I feel you over reacted.

Any education website that a school uses requires first and last names and the school it goes too. Usually it is a website that cost money from the school.

What was the website? Was it a secure one - accessible only via school computers? After I wrote my previous response, I thought of testing websites that have to have students' names and other identifying information. However, those are very secure websites that are set up so that only the student and the student's parents and teacher can see individual information. From your description, I had the impression it was a website that anyone could access.

Good job mom! I would absolutely say you did not overreact. Giving out that info makes those kids sitting ducks to those looking to do wrong. I know my girls have to have dang near every move their school, and/ or teacher makes signed off by me, and that's the way it should be. We do have a website that my girls can get into via a school website, but that requires passwords that are individual to each student. I still had to sign off saying they could use the internet.

now with saying that I know there is not a huge line up to hack a grade 4 math website... but unless all the proper security precautions are met my child will not be on that site... first and foremost they dont ask for identifying information about my child... name and school... AND it would be ideal if ALL employees had criminal background checks done! who knows if any of the employees have child fetishes... you just handed them the golden list!
