This is not a great picture but you can see a little bit of it. I was taking pictures of the rain coming across the bean field. I need to take some good pics so you can see how big this thing really is.

It was 85F today.

I'm a rebel but my hubby's a yank. I don't know why you would assume that you could not build a pallet coop in the winter in cold areas. We had wicked low temps and my hubby was out there with a truck load of pallets building a new coop . Plywood, pallets, straw, roll plastic and rubber roofing. We only used stuff that we had laying about in the barns. We never throw anything away so there was lots to choose from. Its actually a sweet little coop. Not beautiful or anything right now but that will come later. I stuffed the staw into the pallets for insulation. The boards are holding the straw in place well. Plywood and rubber roofing material for the roof. On the most exposed side of the coop we stacked straw and covered it with tarp. Very warm.

I think after the new year I will be adding barnsiding to the outside, improving the door, and probably securing it against predators a tad bit better. Its totally portable right now. He would like to do a concrete slab and make it a tad more permanent. He planned this coop out while I was making breakfast and built everything with the improvements he will make in mind. There is talk about getting more pallets and building a huge goose barn for my mother out of pallets and barn roofing we have on hand. lol This one is for our teenagers later on so its built for the chickens but its being used currently by my mothers mean chicken killing geese..

Well, I don't have pallets, can't find any, but I do have an old 8x21 camper trailer turned breeding coop for some of my banties. I pulled the cabinets off the wall so I could stack pens 2 high, and need more space so I'm getting ready to tear out the stove/sink/heater/closet on the other side. Nice day today, up to 78 degrees, but I had to work. We're closing the shop between Christmas and New Years, so maybe I'll get more done. Course by then, it'll be freezing again.
