there are no silly questions, except "Can I read through the thread, catch up and get back with everyone?" Now that would be silly.

Welcome! Hope you are enjoying your birds so far. Make sure you get a permit for the birds if you live in town-- saves you a headache. We moved from Lawton-- after 12 yrs-- out to Cement in May. DH is still in for a few more yrs, but this is our retirement farm. If he leaves Ft Sill again the girls & I will stay here with the goats, chickens, guineas, peafowl & dogs.

Just wait until you go to an auction. All defenses will be defeated then and you'll be addicted to those too. The good thing is that they'll cheer you on when you bid on something. Look what I wound up with at a chicken auction

You all are in this together! I knew it was too big of a job for only one person lol

yeah, see you had the LF bug, it is nothing to the bantam bug, just wait the bantams are where it really is, and you can keep so many more for less feed.

Uh Oh I was told there are no laws about having chickens in town. Better go back and look that up. I used to have a duck and thats what the animal control told me, but that was about 3 or 4 years ago. We are trying to scrape the money together for a new roof and other improvements on our house so we can sell it and get out of here! One of my neighbors is not very friendly and I have tussled with Lawton Animal control over her repeatedly calling and making things up about my dogs. We are retired after 25 years in so we want a hobby farm while hubby still work on post. Well off to look up chicken ordinances Thank You!

and Welcome to the Okie thread! Lots of folks here that can help with almost any question you have...and enjoy doing it too! when you get a chance...you should post pics of your 5 feathered friends.

Finally inside and reading the posts...funny enablers and pretty Seramas.

Did a whole lot of moving around today. Put the BLRW in a pen inside the hen house...covered that area with fresh sand and hay. Jarvisroo has a sprained leg and won't put his weight on it...so climbing into their coop was hard on him. He's very happy on the hay bedding where he can tolk to all the other birds. Had to move around some feeders, dust box and one of the roost ladders to accomodate the pen.

Then moved Nasty Nesty Nellie into a big cage set on top of the BLRW. Plywood separates the cages. Took her a while to accept the new box her eggs are in now...but she is happy rearranging the hay around her and the 18 eggs in the nest. I had not moved her until today so looks like a few girls added their eggs to the nest along with the ones I put in there. She settled and covered every one of them.

Then Popeye was being introduced to the teen flock over the past week...a few hours each day. He is now moved in with them and Angel has been moved to the hen house. Her cage is a little smaller than the one she was in...makes it easier for her to get acquainted with her food and water locations as well as her roost. If she does okay, may put her back on the big roost where she spent most of her life...being blind doesn't seem to make her a target form the other girls. She gets to free range with them and stays with the flock.

The last to be moved were Terra and Quiver (name for the Earthquakes) the two little Columbian Wyandotte chicks. They are now in a much bigger pen in the hot tub room with their light. They have big windows to look out and my potted plants from outside and much more room than they had in the cage in the den. Going to have to go out there to visit with them frequently. Red was not happy they weren't on the desk behind his couch where he could watch them.

Hubby is taking me to dinner...Yeah Mexican! Will be back in a while. Will look forward to the reports on the Blanchard sale.

More birds? My biggest fear is getting too many chickens for my backyard coop. I do however keep thinking about getting Bantams or Silkies or Silkie Bantams

Right now I have 2 Polish/Araucana mixes and 2 Cuckoo Marans. I also have a small light brown chick that I'm not sure of. She seems to have larger full wings but the rest of her is still downy looking.
