***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I was reorganizing James' garage, which has a ton of my brewing equipment in it. The brewing equipment that I hardly use anymore since I prefer mixed drinks and I have a Marine who rarely drinks (and when he does, it's only mixed drinks/no beer or wine). I have several batches of mead (honey wine) that I'm never going to drink. James' neighbors say it's good... I've given away bottles, I just want the bottles back when they're empty (and I prefer them clean, thanks

). I need to figure out what to do with the rest of it. I won't make hard cider (which I do like) until I can clear out some of this backlog. Can't sell it because I refuse to purchase a liquor license. Bah. I have no idea why I made all this stuff.

Making wine is on my someday list. I am a BIG fan of sweet tasting wines-- don't care for red wine too much.

Glad I stayed home from the auction. I would had just been tempted to buy some more birds. --- like some nice chocolate egg laying ones, which I know I don't need, but my one BCM would like some help supplying those pretty eggs.

Made 3 dz breakfast burritos for the freezer-- since every time I blink I am finding 4 dz eggs in the fridge. I give them to everyone who visits. Kids have friends stay the night they go home with eggs..... Hope the parents don't think I am too crazy! As I was finishing up the burritos -- DH comes in to let me know that as he pulled the 150amp breaker out for the well he broke it. So now he is driving as fast as he can to make it to Lowes before they close so we might have water tonight. Anything else goes wrong we won't be making it to church in the am. Life on the farm doesn't permit skipping showers!

Also canned 7 quarts of seasoned pinto beans & have everything prepped for the reception for DH change of command. Just have to toss everything together & let it simmer for a few hours Tuesday AM.

Flo has that big of a comb and is a female? I may have more female Silkies that I'd originally thought then. Those ornery guineas will be fine and stay plenty warm. Meanest little birds ever invented lol
And as far as the rest of you all......you're as are mean as the guineas the way you tempt the weak-willed with birds! I went up to June's shop and got the CUTEST MOST ADORABLE little Serama boy who is sharing an egg sandwhich with me right now and making the "I found food" noise for me

He's trying to share his food that I gave him and take credit for finding it

He's totally awesome! June said he'd never been handled before but I'd never in a million years have guessed that. I'm so thrilled to have a pigeon-sized bird that has the wonderful chicken temperament. I woke up this morning having no idea I'd get such a cool bird today. I'm so paranoid about him getting sick, I've even got a bottle of hand sanitizer hanging on his cage. He was sooo easy to bathe and blow dry, too! He just SAT there watching me. Gawd, he's so sweet. I guess someone forgot to tell him he's in a new home because he sure doesn't act scared or stressed.
Seriously, if any of you have considered one of these guys for inside, talk to June.
Oh, I named him Channing.

Congradulations!!!!!!! What a beautiful little bird!

Well I can only have 12. Just found out today, so I better make sure my Cuckoo Marans and my litle brown chick are not roosters before I think of getting any more. Oh I wish I could sell this house "as is" so I can find a country home.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Disclaimer: some of the folks on this thread are addicted to hatching eggs, attending poultry auctions and/or otherwise acquiring poultry. Since addicts tend to be enablers, some of us may try to "enable" you in the acquisition of the same addictions, so that you too may acquire more poultry than you ever dreamed of building coops for.

Oh we did get good news yesterday... James' re-enlistment package came through with a sign-on bonus attached. Now we're hoping they will fix his security clearance so his bonus will come through in a tax-free zone (while he's deployed). They literally almost didn't make it in time... his reenlistment package sat on some Sgt's desk for 4 months because she lacks followthrough, then they had to rush to re-do it because it expired and he was going to fall off contract this coming Monday the 14th. Having it go through in 4 days is almost unheard of.

I told him I could use that sign on bonus for a lot of chicken stuff... he gave me the stink eye.
