***OKIES in the BYC III ***

That was likely an incomplete split double yolk egg, Double yolks can fully develop but very seldom hatch and live. We had a few year before last I think that developed well.
based on Yolk sac absorbtion from the photos the chic expired with 24 hours of being ready to hatch.

Was a smaller egg. There was about a 1/2 yolk sack attached to the abdomen...about a tsp of yolk.
Hubby thought Tyson would be interested in a breed with more drumsticks.....

Here are the photos of the ones I could see without disturbing Lucie too much. You can see one still zipping in the left of the group shot. There is a fifth that is still drying under her. Moved them to the clean nest box with a lamp. She is already calling them back to her. And will eat your hand if it isn't gloved. The brood nest sure was stinky! I know some of them are cross babies...can't detrmine if any are feather feet

rofl! Did you quit lifting your leg all over the place?

And yes-take all the snow you want. If we don't get some 90 degree weather soon I'm going to turn into an iceball. I was out every day last summer when it was over 110, I think I was a lizard in another life. But if it gets below 70 I have to wear a coat.
Robin, once the wandering/digging out/lifting their leg/fighting with other males/what have you starts then seldom does neutering have any effect. If you neuter them before any of those behaviors start then you have a good chance of not having to deal with it in the 1st place. I have those suckers sliced off before they're 4 months old

I sure wish I could neuter my chickens, too. Although a 5' fence and a hot wire is what keeps mine in. I think folks without fences just happen to get really lucky when their dog sticks around (or comes back). I've always been convinced that if mine step 1 foot out the gate they'd immediately get run over. That'd be my luck.
Beth, I hope Chicken Larry's doing ok. I still think about him every day. I SUCK at giving chickens away

Larry and Mary are doing GREAT !!

I have a partridge Chantecler, but I know where I can get a Welsummer if you think that would be better.

No any patridge rooster will work, so long as the breed you use has traits you want to keep in the resulting birds, I don't know anything about that breed.

there is a silver laced wyandotte or at least a SLW x the first pic, the other light chick could be a Columbian, Columbian x, or something else based on who its mother is.

I was sure hoping the little black chipmunk was a SLW...that's an AI egg!! There were some pure CW eggs in the batch of eggs she brooded.
When will I know if they are Cochin...I haven't closely inspected the little legs yet for evidence of feathering fuzz.

From the for what it is worth department:
I have crossed Welsummers and Cuckoo Marans several times and I have yet to get any Crele colored offspring.
