That makes me happy, I don't get to see my kids enough so it's a good thing,

I found this on my youngest daughters page I thought it was pretty cool, just have to follow the directions it's harmless.. http://thequietplaceproject.com/thequietplace and not chicken related LOL

cowboy, the whole building is 10 x 10 but only half of it is going to be for chickens the other half for garden tool storage and Gary is going to run electric and plumbing to it so we have water and elec. closer to the chickens and garden. This coop will be for the chickens manning the garden (chicken) moat. Hopefully this will house the capons. If I can learn from poco.

Using puppy pads with the day old chicks seems to work. There was one area that a seemed to have gotten wet around the water, but it dried fine. Normally paper towels would have been a tore up mess. I had 2 eggs never pip, and only 1 odd ball-- that appears to be an EE maran cross.

Went into DD room & found 6 dz eggs she had marked with her own system of organization. Went ahead & set them in the incubator tonight. Figure no little girl should be hoarding eggs in their bedroom!

DH & I spent the night looking @ house plan books. We agreed on one-- my plan is to make a copy of it & hang on the wall. Figure we will look at it over the next couple weeks or months & see if we still like it. We better love the plan for more than a few days or it could be a VERY expensive mistake.

Tomorrow the weather is looking crummy, but can't complain about rain can we???

Good Morning world~

I have used puppy pads for baby chicks, they do work good. I have tried so many things & it comes down to what works the best but doesn't cost an arm & a leg. I am still doing good & have held out on hatching.......Not sure if I can make it to my deadline.

See dh thought I was crazy when I said we could try puppy pads in the brooder instead of cedar chips. Guess we will try that when we run out of the cedar chips. Right now I have a little bully in the brooder, he isn't very kind to his siblings. He keeps pecking at their eyes. I kept taking him out and having a talk with him but he didn't seem to listen, lol. I plan on getting some toys for them today and maybe that will distract him from being so mean. I gave them a plastic cup to crawl in and my boys had a 6" kung foo panda character that we put in there so maybe he would pet it's eyes instead of his siblings. If he doesn't chill out soon I will be putting him in a brooder by himself, lol. Hubby will begin construction this week on a new brooder even though what I have works well for the first week or so I think they need more room after that and the new design will give us more options on how to set it up.

I was given a bunch of them (free is always good) so I tried them. I didn't have any problems. I am all about free. LOL. I didn't pay attention to how long I had them on that, then I switched them to pine bedding.
Not sure what I will use this year since I have since run out of those.....

Late morning, Okies

Wayne - Thanks for the bee link (Grit). It would be great to have more than one hive. I've got a Nuc ordered, and next Saturday I'm assembling my frames and hive body boxes along with my classmates. It's going to be fun and noisy.

I wasn't able to sit at my computer yesterday. I think I got a bad tamale, and as of noon yesterday, I've been attacked by food poisoning symptoms. DH ate from the same bag of tamales, and he feels fine. I must have gotten the only bad one. I've tossed the remainder of the bag. DH will eat them just to prove they're okay if I leave them in the fridge.

I put my second hatch of the season into the hatcher for lockdown on Sunday. I'm hoping to hear little baby voices tonight or tomorrow morning. Have a great day, everyone. I'm going to go back outside with a glass of water (coffee was a poor choice this morning) and sit and watch my birds. I'm hoping to get rid of my headache, even if it is for just a short time.
