***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Craigslist has 2 cabinet incubators for $325 each & hatcher $200 along w some other stuff. It is in Newcastle. Called the guy said he use to own part of Newcastle auction. He isnt including egg trays with the incubator selling them separate. Think I am going to pass for today-- for now. DD dropped over $100 on chickens & stuff this weekend. I am trying to have her pace herself.

Here is what Yeta and I have been up to today.
Some of the free loot I've been gathering for the coop.
The beginings of the pallet floor. Blocks, bricks and pallets all free. ( just work to get them)
Supervisory agent Yeta, she thought the floor wasn't high enough so you can see in this pic I raised it a little,
Yeta telling me about a board I missed.
Yeta making sure the floor doesn't bounce.
And inspecting the tools
And here she is making sure I have enough supplies to finish the job.
She is such an awesome chicken, got her beak in everything I do in the back yard.

I'd say it's a good dang thing Yeta was there-you'd have messed it up for sure

I love that chicken lol

Looked at my blog and thought wow has been forever since I posted on it, so sorta did a quicky catch up. Maybe this evening will do more.

I have been out cleaning my soon to be brooder house. On a funny note. I found an old cotton sack. Some few of you on here may know about these, but many do not. It is white canvas. This one was one of us kids as it was only about 10 foot long. Dad and Grandads were much longer. I am one of the few 52 year old men in this part of the state and probable lots of others that got to experience picking cotton. Did this for about 4 years in my early youth, and can remember hoeing cotton one season.

This was made out of a white light canvas. Had red cotton bowl logo and some writing about the gin where is was sold. It was wadded up and when I unwadded it It was very dirty, some mold, and some dry rot. Well like I said yesterday, The Wife aint here. So I thought I would wash it in the wash machine and if it looked good, try to figure some way to display my new found piece of my history. Lot of you ladies may already know this and probable some of you men. I know it now. A wash machine will destroy your past in just one cycle. I opened the lid and it looked like I had filled the tube with cotton. My bag had disintegrated to the point it was just small pieces.

Oh well I hated picking cotton so I guess this is for the best.

The additional problem is the cotton shreds will damage the washing machine. You will need to clean out the lint trap in the washer and carefully flush out the drain.

Pulled many a cotton boll in my day. Ouch! Hubby did too...although he was small enough that his sister stuck him inside her sack and pulled him while he napped.

Cowboy, sorry but that was funny!lol Be sure you get the washer cleaned out before mama comes home! How do we find your blog or is it open to the public?

Enjoying all the bee chat, learning some too! I was surprised that you weren't able to harvest the first year,I guess I just thought they were mass producers of world sweetness!

It takes twice as much energy to create wax and draw out comb, as it does to make honey. Typically, the bees spend so much energy making the wax the first year they don't have alot of surplus honey to pay in rent to the beekeeper. On the other hand, the bees can re-use the wax comb over and over so they can spend more time making honey after the first year or so.

Upcdazy, thanks or the recipe. I'm going to try it and when fishing season comes around some homemade blackened catfish.

Oh, I've been wondering why you didn't get honey the first year.

So me cleaning the tub by hand and putting another load of stuff in to flush it out aint sufficiant?
