cowboy, it is pretty common, they are called silent heart attacks, and as someone mentioned they are more common in women. It is certainly a wake up call, but like others have mentioned it can be managed and many people live very long after their first. My Gpa had a massive (not silent at all) first one in 1978 and had multiple smaller including silent throughout the next almost 30 years of his life. The key is to identify your risks and manage those as best you can (lifestyle choices, food, exersice etc), find a good cardiologist who you can communicate well with and trust, take the meds as prescribed (not hit and miss b/c you don't think you need them) and don't stress about the rest. About the triglicerides, I have a friend who is a normal weighted, very active (horse trainer), female around 50 years old, she had her cholesterol checked on a fluke just to get her husband to do it. Within an hour of her Dr. getting her test results back she was in the ICU her cholesterol levels were well over 1000 and triglycerides over 10,000. She tried prescribed cholesterol lowering meds, diet (she did go vegan) and alternative diet supplements, for her it takes all three approaches to keep it in check. Even being overweight for your numbers to be so high it is most likely a combo of what you eat, and how your body uses it, likely gentetically your body doesn't process fat and carbs the way it should. Be proactive w/ your health, research the problems, look at the different solutions pick what will work for you and stick w/ it, if it doesn't work try different solutions until you find what does work for you. Dr. Higgins who was my Gma's cardiologist recommended the South Beach Diet to all his pts.
elwood, have you tried meletonin? You can get it inexpensively at any discount store w/ a vitimin section. It is the natural sleep "chemical" your own body makes, doesn't make you groggy in the morning and if your insomnia is related to low levels of your own bodies meletonin it might help. The reccomended dose is one pill, but I take 2, and my husband takes 4 it works very well for both of us.
