***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Dang, didn't mean to depress anyone with the "over 50" talk. I'm over 50, too. That's sort of depressing in itself. When I started Crestor for high cholesterol a few yrs back my cholesterol was 300 and trigs 600. Man! I don't feel so bad now about mine after seeing what yours was,Guy, and the story Kass told. I didn't realize people could live with them that high. Why did the Dr freak out when mine were only 600?? I don't smoke anymore though (Go me and Elwood!) and I never did care for meat. Eggs are about all I eat. I was skinny my whole life until I quit smoking and gained 30 lbs. I spent all summer outside doing stuff last year on the pens and in the yard and didn't drop a single pound. I still don't recognize myself in the mirror and it's been 3 1/2 yrs since I gained the 30 lbs.
NN, rats are one of my favorite pets. I saw the color & ears and didn't look any farther. That's a gorgeous rat-wow. We've had rats for pets for over 30 yrs. Our last one (Ronnie Rizzat) died a year or so ago. I miss Ronnie. I've always had to have some sort of little critter to cuddle with, I suppose now my little Serama fits the bill.
Cathie, I didn't help *you with the Guineas, it was the other way around, you restored my peace of mind by taking the noisy things lol
Kass, I used to take Melatonin, funny you should mention it because I was just thinking about getting some again. Bill, it does seem to work well. You can get it at Walmart.
And Kass, I don't know about the whole chainsaw and harpoon thing lmao!! But we've had engine parts and every kind of baby animal imagineable in the bathtub so far be it for me to judge

Jatcat, that sounds like an awful lot of work! I wish I was more into planting and canning.
The garden stuff doesn't feel like work too much -- until my back starts hurting to the point I can't stand back up straight! I enjoy watching my seedlings grow same as the chicks. DH doesn't find it amusing when I call him out to look at the seedlings because they got their 2nd set of leaves. If you are unsure about a big garden, idea productive plants in containers can be rewarding. Google DIY earthtainers -- I always grew a few plants in containers when we lived in town-- since was forced to put them in containers after I ran out of garden space! This yr I think I will have tumbling toms in hanging baskets, and maybe a few pots of mint--- everything else will be in the ground.

Buster's "preditor protection" is the best by far!!!!!! He uses livestock gaurd dogs. Only sucidal preditors set foot on his property.

Yes, just ask Mike D. Every time he comes over there's a fresh raccoon or possum or something the dogs are using for a chew toy. :)

This is a picture of The Bear. These are the safest chickens on the place...

Last year we ran out of garden space (not that anything grew well once the drought came along) and dh cut down a tree that was hollow. I had him cut it in lengths of 24" and used them as planting containers. They will last me a few seasons before they rot to the point of being kinling. I lined my driveway with them to also keep the drive from washing out. So one dead tree made a garden for my tomatos and okra and helped with the erosion problems.

Kass ,it must have been a drunk Eskimo logger! We get all kinds in Okla!lol.

Got some radishes and lettuce planted. Made me a strudy work table to put on my sheds deck so I can work on things and not have to bend over! Its a beautiful day with possible severe pop up storms this afternoon. And that Okla. wind finally got here!

Cathie- DH cut down a hollow tree couple years ago. I wanted to keep it -- it was FULL of big huge ants, so it went into the burn pile. Think the only thing you would have to worry about planting in it would be how the tree changes the PH & as it rots it could change the nitrogen levels in the soil too.

Doodle- not having to bend over does help alot! The twisting & turning still causes me to have back spasms! DH says I have the back of an 80 yr old.

All done playing with my plants for the day-- going to wash all the dirt off & clean up around the house. By then will be time to get the kids from school & head to Lawton for the Farmers Market Meeting. Buster- are you going tonight? Might see you there.
