***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Blanchard auction is this Saturday @5- we are bringing EE & RIR chicks & some golden seabrights maybe some other things. Thinking it will be a LATE night.

I was able to get my plant labels done & played in the dirt for a while but the wind beat me down quick. I hate when the sky turns brown from dirt being blown around. Waitin for kids to get out of school now.

Tonights dinner rib-eyes & roasted asparagus & baked potatoes -- tomorrow is a day of cooking for me. DH's cadre have been working 15+ hour days for the past 2 wks so I am making lunch, for Wednesday, but have to start cooking tomorrow. Think they will be happy with anything I make. Has to be better than field chow & MRE's.

Oh that is right, hmmmm Perkins in the morning and Blanchard at night might be pushing it for me, lol. I will have to see if I can find a sitter or we will have to bring our daughter and one of our little boys (either the 7yr old or the 9 year old). Can't leave them all at home together or they make a huge mess of the house, lol.

I haven't a clue what is for dinner at our house, MIL is at the house today so hopefully she will work her magic and make something delish, lol. I agree anything will be better than MRE's I don't think anyone really considers those 'food' lol.

Nana I will start to brain storm about raffle items-- sure I can come up with a few things. Maybe some eggs, wk old keets or chicks & not sure what else.... Possibly seedlings of some kind?? I know those cedars scream fire danger. Dh has cleared several since we bought the place, but it doesn't seem to make a drop in the bucket. I had told him we needed to get the dead ones gone before fire season, but looks like the fire season started even sooner this yr. I will look into getting some extra help removing them, I know they are giant match sticks just waiting. We have 4 chainsaws if you count the pole saw but think it is time to get a good industrial chainsaw, the ones from Lowes don't seem to take the use that DH throws @ him. One of the chainsaws was my FIL & it is fabulous, but so heavy no body can use it too long without being completely wore out! I will also have to check out the industrial sharpies! Thanks so much!

Christina...any items donated for the raffle will be most appreciated.

On the cedars, your local county field service office for USDA Conservation Service is located in Chandler. There is an Eastern Red Cedar erradication program already establisher dor the NW quadrant of Lincoln County with a cost sharing program (EQIP). I think the deadline for 2012 has already passed but you could get info on 2013. A rep will come out and determine the infestation of tree coverage on your property (low, medium, and high) A cost sharing plan provides funds for removal...cutting them off at the ground level. We had our 160 acres north of Prague cleared a few years ago. Made a huge difference in the native pasture grass available for livestock. The brush piles we left in place made good cover for wildlife. We see more rabbits and turkeys in that area.

If you are clearing cedars my husband will come load a trailer with them. We have a local mill we take them to and will be building a fence out of them once we have enough milled.
There is a great saw mill in Shawnee on Highland that cuts local lumber.

Our workplace stocks mre's for the winter incase we get stuck at a station w/ bad weather. (they started that after that one horrible ice storm a couple of years ago) anyway I always bring my food and have food allergies so I have never actually eaten any of them, but have seen and smelled them when others I work with have and ohhhhh my, you aren't kidding when you say they aren't to be considered as food!

I also have no idea what I am going to cook, except we are having asparagus (found a good sale)

This break is about over guess I'll start on the next 40 feet of asparagus, I think that is all I have left for the asparagus today that will make 120 feet planted today and yesterday, but I still want to get my 100 feet of potatoes in today ............................. we'll see.

We have seen that mill. We use one that is 4 miles from the house in between Luther and Harrah. It is off Dobbs and Brittian road. The guy works a regular job and then runs the mill after hours. Just got oak cut for 26 cents a board foot. Gonna be my kitchen counter tops once it has cured, lol. It was once a neighbors tree she knew it was dying and was leaning towards her house. Dh took it down a few weeks ago for her. He is trying to build up his cedar stores since he used alot of it building chicken coops for me, haha. So if anyone near Lincoln County wants cedars down he will more than likely come help clear them out, esp the bigger ones but he uses the smaller ones as fence posts.

) I won't be doing that. The boys paid for lunch so not completely a bad thing, lol. Sure hope MIL cooked up a storm today, she makes this veggie soup that is out of this world.
