***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Finally finished my brooder this morning. Now it has proper doors for each section. (Made from refrigerator shelves, of course! Cause that's the way I roll!

) Also hit Harbor Freight and Tools for their big tent sale this weekend and got a better tarp to catch the litter. I decided to keep the beehive set up with pine shavings in it for a place my broodies can take a poop walk every day. Y'all have a good weekend. Can't wait till NEOCS!
This is too cool! You're MacGuyver & Martha Stewart all rolled into one!

whew! i don't like hot!!! and its just beginning!
expanded the bantam run, so how many bantams can live in a 15 x 15 run????
ok, photo time.... faverolle girls.....mary and martha-

the boys..... anyone interested in a bantam faverolle cockerel?
and this guy will be at NEOCS too bantam cochin/duccle mix
rofl! My husband said just to flick his "little man parts" (except he didn't call it that!) and that'd teach him haha! We've got the room, I'm already attached, I'll just make it ok :)

We spent all day setting posts for chicken yards. I've been saving up for a long time, I'm so glad! I'm getting 3 birds from Joe and given the fact I refuse to mix birds again (for their sake, too) they needed their own yard. We set posts and bought 5' fence for 4 yards under huge trees with tons of shade. My 4 Brahma girls are going to live with my 3 Lavender Ameraucanas in a 50x50 yrd under a huge canopy of trees, it feels so nice and cool under there even at the hot time of day. Then the way the measurements worked out the 3 birds from Joe ended up with a 60x85 yard haha :) It was easier to do it that way that to fence up a smaller area because the front side already has a 6' chain link fence. They have trees in their yard also plus my husband just planted some and we've got about 30 3' tall Cottonwoods to plant. I know other people don't like Cottonwoods but I love them. Down the road I'll probably split that yard into 2 42x60 yards. Then we set the posts for my Silver/Gold Laced Cochins under a huge tree. I've even ended up with an extra 50x50 yard.
We've got all this room and it's always just gone to waste. Now at least the birds can put all that shade to good use. It's such a relief to be getting it done.
Another full day tomorrow

Hot outside today for sure Robyn!
Cleaned up a weedy atch in front of the barn and restacked the cinder blocks...looking for the other black snake' hiding spot. Got the yard mowed and had to stop before mowing the garden and running the weed wacker.
Made sure the swamp cooler was running on the hen houses.
Will need to set up the mister for the two outside penstomorrow if the heat continues.

Hey Carl, are you going to set a batch of eggs this next week or is the incubator going off for a while? If not, I can pull out the Little Giant and try again in the back bedroom. Wasn't going to set any until fall, but now I'm getting Cochin and CW eggs again. I want to see what the White and Lavendar cross will give.

Jcatblum if you get any websites on those prefabs p,ease send them to me. I am interested in figuring out something cheaper than standard building.
Went to the auction today. It was a good sale, lots of young birds. I got a web polish hen to go with the trio I am getting from my niece in Okla. also is anyone interested in young bantam partridge Cochins? I bought 15 today, they are about quail size and look really good, and only three or four Roos! I will be bringing them to the meetup if there is any interest. I like Cochins but am not attached to them yet.
Has any one heard the forecast for next weekend and the week after? I hope it's not rainy as I have a bunch of yard work to do on my trip back.

Love the brooder!

Here's the little Cochin bantam boy from MJ. He looks so funny with his feathers half grown in but I can already tell he's going to be just beautiful when he's grown.
MJ, this is the only one that lived out of that group of 5.The others didn't grow and just gradually wasted away and died. I got 4 Pheonix that same night at Newcastle & lost 2 of them also. I really think they got exposed to something at the auction and all were so tiny they couldn't fight it off. The ones that did fight it off seem real healthy though. This boy is so gorgeous I just have to keep him after all. I swore I wasn't going to keep any males of that batch but he's SO pretty (well, he will be!) with all his leg feathers. There's no way I want to part with him now.

Well today was awful we was headed to Walmart and my oldest daughter started crying and screaming that her head hurt so bad. So we went to the ER we got there at 1:00pm and they got us back to the room then took blood then swabed her throat then took a uran sample the we waited and waited at 5:00pm they said she had a urinary tract infection really bad. They gave her a strong antibiotic shot in her hip then said we would have to wait :30 min to see if she had a allergic reaction. So it was 5:30 when we got out of the ER then had to go get her perscription at Walmart and they said it would be about :30 - :40 mins I was like we are never gonna get to go home. So we browsed around Walmart till I got talked into more fish for our fish tank then went home to cook super and it is midnight and just got everything cleaned up I am so tierd. My hens are back to laying normal it must have been the wind that had them messed up. Well I'm beat I'm gonna get some rest got a bunch to do tomarow so good night Okies

Had a great time at the Blanchard auction. Got some great looking, young RIR and black sex link hens. Ya know, that Jerry is a heck of a guy. Did you know that if you buy too many birds to take home, he will let you leave them at the sale barn overnight? Had I known that I would have bought twice as many birds as I did.

Fortunately for me, though, I was able to fit all 23 adult hens in crates and carriers in the back seat of my Toyota Carolla.

Keep this up, I might just give that Magic Poultry Van a run for its money. And this from a guy who a year ago swore he would never buy another auction bird. Funny how our priorities change.

Okla, seriously, Google Palm Harbor homes. They have some sturdy, nice looking homes at a great price.

Happens to us all at one time or another! I can think of worse habits to have. LOL

Doddle we looked at palm harbor today. We have been looking at oak creak homes this past yr (they seem to send lots of flyers to us). Both are very similar in price & floor plans. However today we went in Oakwood homes & WOW!!! They have homes that look nothing like a modular inside or out. I picked out a floor plan & we made a list of the changes we want tonight & I may try to go back Monday & set down with someone to run the final numbers. I am looking at houses more on the high end side--- but right now think we will save $70-$80k over a stick build. $70000 can get us one heck of a barn & even pay for the girls school. I am doing lots of research & we first looked at prefab last yr. This will be our forever house, so it needs to be everything we want without a compromise we may regret. They usually will have some house on sight that people fell through on after they ordered them. Those houses are priced better but you don't get to customize the house. I am being picky & I am willing to pay more to get exactly what I want. Figure I am home 24/7 I should have exactly what I want in my house.

Buster glad you scored some more layers for your flock! Can't believe you fit them all in the Toyota! I am glad we stopped by & made it home early. The farm chores have been keeping us busy busy busy!

Good night all..... Going to try & get some rest, DD is still up cleaning her room & watching the eggs from Bfrancis hatch. Think I will have a cranky girl tomorrow.
