***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote: we shut the well off for a bit, then turned it back on. and voila clear (or clearer) water. it's not perfect, but at least it's something we can use to flush the toilets (very important here!). Called the well guy, hopefully we'll have it fixed soon. dang! this sux. my first time living in the country, this is not what i needed!

Hope that works on the well for a while.
So sorry to see all the fire damages being reported...

Have a lone baby chick in a small hatch. Had 4 eggs in lockdown, two hatched one I had to assist. one dis. The one that was assisted died on day 2 and now last night lost one of the healthy babies. Cleaned the brood box in the house and have the baby set up with a mirror and a cloth buddy for now. Either need a couple of chicks to go with it or need to find a hen to raise it.. It's one of the F1 crossed back to the CW rooster so it would be nice to get it up to see what it will look like. It may end up being a very spoiled chick if I raise it in the house for a couple of weeks.

Any body have any week old chicks out there I can purchase or to spare for a while?

Morning

I can hardly believe it, but I'm stuck inside because it's raining too hard to feed my birds!!!!!!! Waaaaaa Hoooooooo!!!!!! I need to be at work at 11:00, so I will give this ten more minutes and then put on rain gear if necessary.

We had that problem when we lived in Enid years ago and what was happening was that the well was not cased far enough down and the walls were caving off.

What we did was to have more casing added and then took a high vollume 2" pump and dropped a hose to the bottom and sucked all of the silt out of the well. Those pumps are called trash pumps and can be rented at most rental centers. Then we added a sand point to the bottom of the suction line and used an above ground pump instead of a down-hole pump.

Yes country living offers it's own set of challenges. Before you are finished, plumbing and electrical work will be second nature to you.

Oh and don't forget to have the well guy show you how to take care of your pressure tank. They can get waterlogged ,if not a bladder tank, or the air pressure can get low if they are a bladder tank. Then your pump will cycle too much and that is not good for them and they will fail prematurely

And I forgot to add... Good Friday Morning to everyone!!!

I can see rain falling out of the clouds here but it's that vertigo stuff that evaporates before it hits the ground. LOL

We have clouds that look like they could rain, but nothing yet. Still hoping.

Spoke too soon about not losing birds. Lost my oldest chicken; a lemon blue OEGB. She was at least 5 or 6 years old. She looked to be in good condition and has never had any problems.

Found a really cute baby in one of my chicken pens this morning. I'm taking this darling baby possum to the rehabber, as adult possums are NOT cute! This one seems to be too young to know it should have been afraid of me, but it is not a tiny infant.

Well I think I just got some really bad news!

I think we have to have a new well drilled!! Our water is MUDDY. As far as I know, this well hasn't been used since the 80's, it's been fine since we moved in in April, but just tonight, the water looks like mud. That can't be good. Anyone with wells have any advice?

I'll apparently be up for awhile now. So irritating!

Did you have to install a new pump or was there a pump already there? When we moved last year we had to put a new pump in a 30 yr old well. I have a couple of cuzns that work on these things and they told me to run the pump for 24hrs straight so that the mud would clear up. Also did you put any bleach down the hole before ran the pump? If you have not done either, than do the bleach and then run the pump for 24 hrs but do not use the water.
