***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So far my birds are all OK. All my pens are in shade though. One has less shade than it did as we had a cedar tree removed last fall. However, I was VERY surprised that five chicks hatched in that pen yesterday. I expected that all the eggs had been killed by this awful heat. The is a pen with mostly blue and splash silkies; the roo is a blue showgirl. I've lost tract of some of my silkies and showgirls that are half lavender. The babes appear to be 1 lavender SG, 1 splash SG, 1 lav silkie, 1 splash silkie and 1 probably silver partridge silkie. All have proper toes and three have high vaulted skulls. Either the roo and one or more hens are half lavender, or one of the lavs from the pen next door made her way in to lay her eggs, which is possible. They are now in a brooder in the air conditioned little barn.

The deer continue to come into the yard, one or two at a time. The buck was about five feet outside our dining room window yesterday, and one of the does was in the front yard. She has a fairly large, healed wound on her side. They are beautiful, and I'm sure are hungry. We think they were attracted by the peaches that fell from the tree, but they are all gone now. Part of me thinks we sould buy some deer corn to feed them, but the wiser side tells me we don't want to encourage them inside our yard. We are fenced all around, but the fence is far too short to keep deer out. I think they also eat some of the bird seed that has fallen on the ground. They, or their predecessors, have eaten most of my hostas.

I had a whole bunch of multi-quotes, went to help the 10yr old, 5yr old came by and poof all gone.

I think we'll go buy school supplies today. 3 weeks and counting.

My hen that I brought in the house yesterday is doing better today but still not her self she will stand and walk around for short periods of time but is sleeping a lot I will not let her go outside till she is back to normal I haven't lost one yet and I gonna do whatever I can to not lose any

Mitzi mine still isn't working! Grrrrrr! Also this AM the weather forecast on my phone showed 109 for Saturday! Now it is saying 110 Saturday!

Robin I know you love doing pet portraits. Was wondering if you have considered joining Oklahomafood.coop. I have been a member for yrs. It has grown so much. It would be a small investment to start selling there, but when I joined the membership fee got you a lifetime membership. And with your art you could mail it straight to them instead of getting the product to the drop point. Just an idea, but I thought of you when I was doing my order.
Also thought of nanakat. I was looking at the hotpads on their site & the ones she made for poops were so much nicer than those! I still haven't used the ones I won from the raffle, I don't want to dirty them up!

Our birds are fairing well today. They have had cold treats twice & are setting under fans & the swamp cooler. Picked up some varieties of radish seeds today. Excited to get them in the ground. Scared with this heat our farmers market table may be getting bare. As it is we are selling out in less than 2 hours each time. The only thing we ever seem to have left is the small tomatoes. Not cherry size, but heat shrunken 1lb tomatoes that are now 1/4 pound or less!

hi folks- tired of the heat..... and got to thinking about winter- does a brutal summer lead to a brutal winter???

my Traveller's eye seems to be open more, been spraying it with vetrycin, last nite she was peering around looking out of her good eye, felt so sorry for her, hopefully the spray will clear it up

Glad the eye is doing better!

Don't you remember last yrs summer? And we didn't have a winter. We need a good freeze this winter to kill off these bugs though!!!
