So far my birds are all OK. All my pens are in shade though. One has less shade than it did as we had a cedar tree removed last fall. However, I was VERY surprised that five chicks hatched in that pen yesterday. I expected that all the eggs had been killed by this awful heat. The is a pen with mostly blue and splash silkies; the roo is a blue showgirl. I've lost tract of some of my silkies and showgirls that are half lavender. The babes appear to be 1 lavender SG, 1 splash SG, 1 lav silkie, 1 splash silkie and 1 probably silver partridge silkie. All have proper toes and three have high vaulted skulls. Either the roo and one or more hens are half lavender, or one of the lavs from the pen next door made her way in to lay her eggs, which is possible. They are now in a brooder in the air conditioned little barn.
