***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well the weekend has come to an end. We did end up getting all the wire on the top of the other 30'x12' yard so now both are coved on top. Now just have to get their shelters built but that will have to wait, we put up tarps and temped in some shelters for them until next weekend. But now my SLW and my RIR and my Cuckoo Marans all have new pens. We will get the wire for their uncovered yards next week as well. Plus I got all the feeders and waterers bleached and scrubbed so now all I have to do next weekend is spray pens out. I had planned on spraying pens and treating all the birds for mites today but with the ground so wet I decided to wait until next weekend.

Looks like hubby gets to go from chicken pen builder to dryer repair man this week. My dryer is blowing cold no heat so he will be researching parts and trying to order those. Looks like we will be line drying everything this week (so now it will rain all week, lol).

Well off to watch American Pickers with the hubby until my eyes can't stay open (and that should be in about 20 mins lol).

Good morning!!!! i guess I am the first up this morning, Guy have not seen you on in awhile, if your lurking out there wanted to say hi, have heard your surgery went ok but we miss you here, talked to Wayne(Okladoodle) and he said to tell you hi! Wife had to go in early so I have to get around and take Dakota to school to catch the VoTech bus! Have to get Heather on her bus too so busy around here this morning. Hope everyone has a great Monday!!! Lynn

I'm going to put an ad on Craigs list for some of these guys if anyone here is interested let me know, I'd love it if someone from here took them instead of someone on Craigslist. I don't want any money for them, they're 8-11 wks old. The Bantam Ameraucanas are from good lines and are nice little guys.
The 1st is a Splash Araucana boy, he's tailed and no tufts but he's still Araucana and has the blue egg gene.

These are 8 wk old Bantam Ameraucana cockerels, 1 Black and 1 Birchen. The Birchen will color up a ton in the next few months with lots of red. They'll stay little.

The next 2 are an 8 wk old Lavender Bantam Ameraucana who'll be nice and small, he's really pretty.

This one I'm debating on-an 11 wk old tiny Birchen/Brown Red Bantam Ameraucana named Dennis The Menace. If I can get the others placed 1st I'll place him. The Birchen in the 2nd picture will look like this in a few wks when he gets more color in. They'll both end up with a really pretty red overlay along their hackles, sickles and back.
(I see I spelled 'bantam' wrong in the picture, too).

I don't remember who posted the smokey egg dip recipe, but I finally tried it, it is awesome! I also mixed in some salsa and made some cool (as in not heated) nachos it was great that way too.

Smokey egg dip came from me. Never found anyone that didn't like it. DH says it is addicting. Kids were just asking about making some last night.
Now that we have several dry days I need to get out & plant some fall seeds.... Just can't get my body to agree. We did pick over 15 watermelons last night. Those things sneak up. The chickens & goats love them! And melons are such an easy crop. Overall been a lazy day here. Want to make a big batch of tomato soup tonight, not sure if I will get to it or not. Haven't even figured out what's for dinner & DH said he will be home in a few hours. Guess I better figure something out.
Mitzi I am sure you will find some takers on the birds, if we were closer I know Taron would beg for them. She is kinda mad at one of her "friendly" Roos. She was holding it yesterday & it pecked her face. She has a huge scrap & says it still hurts. Told her he was just trying to get a freckle.
Where is everyone hiding at?

Erein sounds like you need to contact Okla Burea ofNarcotic they may be boiling cloths in cocaine or heroin.

We got two inches of rain and much needed pond water. Gotknocked of the internet but reprimand thank heaven for cell phones. Repairman is fixing it now in our area.

Oh Mitzi if I wasn't already over run with roos I would snatch them up. I am sure you won't have any trouble finding them homes. I just need to rehome 4 Black Copper Marans and one Wheaton Maran roo and I will be happy. Of course we won't talk about the 25+ roos that are free ranging that if they don't stop with the chasing each other and going at it I will be having hubby process them sooner rather than later. They have 8 acres to roam and they all want the same spot on the fence or one of the outside chairs and fight over it. Dang sounds like my kids now that I think about it, lol.

I have a question for anyone who hatches in a hovabator or an LG. Are the heating coils in the lid supposed to get hot? Mine aren't enen warm to the touch an it's ben on all night. Any help?

I have not used them so I cannot say for sure, but I would think just above your normal body temp as they incubate at 99.5 - 100 degrees my incubators are much larger and the elements never seem to be hot to me. Do you have a thermometer?
