WOW catching up with the last 4 days took me almost an hour! LOL We got pens put up and tops on them, just one little pen of Kurt's is waiting for us to finish the top of it. The birds are loving having their new yards. The two new yards are about 1/4 acre each and it is amazing how fast they have eaten the tall grasses down already! I will have to look into the deer feeder seed to plant in areas. I could fence off a corner in each pen to grow them up then move the corner each time. One pen now has access to our compost pile, that pen spends almost their entire day in the pile, lol.
MJ Thank you so much for the little hens! Kurt spent most of yesterday doting on them. He said two laid eggs yesterday and one little hen insists on sitting them. Tried to bite him when he went to get the eggs, lol. He said he was just going to let her keep them. We will see how serious she is about it I guess.
Betty, I guess Kurt has at least two hens (still praying there are 3 with one roo, lol) we found our first two silkie eggs this weekend! He was thrilled!
Nathanael spent time this weekend cleaning out his pens and then all by himself sprayed them with pinesol then oxine letting them dry out while his birds enjoyed time on the grass in the shade. He then put new pine shavings in and this next weekend we will give all his birds baths. He has two he got from poops not acting right I hope they are okay. He has slowly lost them one by one to illness or heat. I put electrolytes in their water yesterday and hope they are doing better today. They are just acting sluggish and stuble a bit when they walk. But are eating and drinking just fine. But his show birds are looking great! He can't wait to show in fact he is checking the mail box daily for his information on entering the Newcastle show.
Jackson well he is thrilled just to sit in his grow out pen with his little chicks and talk to them. It is funny how they know he has treats for them everytime he goes in there!
Christina hope your feeling better soon, It is never good for momma to be down! We had 3 guineas hatch this weekend (almost 1/2 a week early) and two of them are completely white! They look like little white puff balls, lol. Still waiting on the rest to hatch, supposed to hatch tomorrow so not sure if we will have more hatch out or not. In our experience if I have any hatch early, any that are going to hatch will hatch then. I will candle Wednesday to see if any are still viable.
Hopefully these cooler temps stick around. We are down to getting about 8-12 eggs a day, when we should be getting at least 4 times that. Plus it is has been so nice to open the windows and not run the AC in the house.
