NN Sounds like you are woking nights instead of days to keep those trucks running. Also sounds like you are "in your stride" so to speak.
OklaDoodle Congrats on the move. Sorry about having to give up your chickens, but I understand the need to downsize on a rental property. Bet you do a lot of research on breeds you want when you move to Oklahoma. Lots of us will help you fill those pens.!

Sad for the lost chickens. I know one can have a strong bond with their birds. They each have their own lovable personalities.
It's always awful when a dog attack happens. Even worse when it could be prevented.

Okay...should never go into Shawnee Atwood's by yourself when there are baby chicks.... pullets and straight-run.
Somehow those 3 Lt Brahma pullets, 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets and 4 Buff Orpington straight run just appeared in a box in my cart. I just had to pay for them.

I was all hyped up for my hatch today but I think all my babies in the incubator did not make it thru the pulled plug Saturday. They were in lock down and hatch day was supposed to be today....no activity in the eggs. I will leave them until tomorrow just in case.

I'm happy to know about these chicks. I might need to get some on Sunday. I candled my silkies eggs, out of six, there were FIVE clears. Stupid heat.

I sure have enjoyed the weather today I let out most of my birds to free range I kinda wish I had someone to run a video camera when I step out in the yard and get mobbed by all the critters that are out it's got to be quite a sight to see LOL spent most of the day going in circles but it was nice not feeling like I was going to expire from heart stroke,

Just curious but I've heard before about feeding dog and cat food as a supplement to chickens because of it's higher protein content, I know that the source of protein in a lot of dog foods is hair ground fairly fine but dogs can't digest it like protein from meat or veggie sources, I'm assuming that is still the case for dogs foods esp the cheaper brands, anyway I guess my question is can chickens digest the hair or does it just pass on through? when my cat passed on this last spring I fed the big bag of leftover food to the chickens as treats figured it couldn't hurt, When I first found out how to check the dog food I was feeding Ol'Roy afterwards I switched to a higher grade the dogs didn't eat as much and their waste wasn't near as much either, A few weeks ago someone was telling me that feeding the creep pellets to the chickens would cause them to starve as the creep was made from cotton seed and couldn't be digested by the chickens, I'd be interested in learning more about that if anyone has any info or insight about whether or not cottonseed and hair can be digested and used by them,

I use to use Strongheart dogfood as a show conditioner, years ago. While working for a Vet he told me Dog foods are too hard on birds kidneys, we always used cat food for birds.

Alright, I couldn't stand it. I went and got the chicken. The dog is still in the backyard in the chicken area and I couldn't watch her get attacked again. If they want her back I'll gladly hand her over, but if they don't come and get her I'll keep her and nurse her back. They are ridiculous!

Let's see if I can post this without cursing. I am so ticked at my stupid neighbors. I was sitting out with my chickens this morning and I heard one of their chickens screaching. At first I thought maybe two of them were fighting but all my girls stood up straight so I assumed she was really hurt. I run over and their dog is attacking their chicken. Keep in mind their dog killed some of mine a few short weeks ago. I go running and yelling and the dog runs towards their home. I ran in and called her and told her that her dog was attacking their chicken and she says "Oh no! Thanks, bye". I stay out there with her chicken since it's in the corner where I can see it and does anyone come outside? No. I assume she let the dog inside because it was gone. I finally had to go to work so I left the chicken in the corner. It didn't look like it had much damage, just was in shock and wouldn't move. I never did see their other two chickens though I looked for them.

I come home three hours later and go to check on the chicken and notice as I'm walking back that there are feathers all over the yard. I find the chicken in the corner but this time it is missing a LOT of feathers. What the hell is wrong with these people? You let the dog back outside?? You didn't put the chicken up? You didn't even check on it? I'm so steaming mad! I still can't find their other two chickens. I know there was a black one there yesterday and I haven't seen the barred rock in a while but I don't always go looking at their chickens. They did put up an electric fence to keep their dogs from getting my chickens so I can't just hop the fence and get the poor girl. I wonder if they would even care if I did.

We live in the city in a neighborhood so it's not like they have a ton and wouldn't miss her, and I know they don't eat them, they only had three! These were pets. How can you be so cruel as to let that dog out knowing it was attacking her? My blood is boiling!

Man that would make me mad to,,, I would have to call her an make an offer on the bird;s it seem's like the new has wor off ..On the bird's an they just dont care about thim any more..

Jenshens, your neighbors seem to be very irresponsible people, glad they at least put the fence up to keep thier dog away from your chickens. I would have got the chicken too.

I thought atwoods and tsc would have basically the same stuff and prices, boy was I wrong. I turned the wrong way when I left Muskogee today so instead of going to tsc I ended up at the atwoods in checotah (saw the chicks but didn't get any) I also didn't get the feed I was going to get either, they didn't have it and their prices were higher.

It was the honest thing to do, Nana. They obviously knew you'd take care of them, what were you supposed to do? Put them back?? They'd have felt so unwanted :-(

Tried to point out a few Roos ready for the freezer yesterday. Taron had an argument to save each one. How many favorite chickens can a girl have??
