***OKIES in the BYC III ***

How is this for a tiny egg?

That is a quarter and a bottle cap.

Just a dog and his cat.

Is this a third wheel?????
I thought it was a piece of candy. Quarter sized is crazy small.

I've lost some special (to me) birds recently to a predator. We've got 4 traps set and have caught the neighbor's cat twice and nothing else. We let the cat go both times and then got to wondering if it was that stupid CAT that had taken the chickens! They've all been small ones so I bet it was. If we catch him again he won't get to go free this time. There's 4' and 6' fences to get over and I can't imagine a coon going to that kind of trouble although it's possible. But we've always seen that cat in our yard and I've seen him scale the stockade fence like it wasn't even there. Plus the chickens probably aren't afraid of a cat so he could've snatched who he wanted to.

Now for a list of what that fence won't stop, coon, bobcat, coyote, domestic cats and many dog breeds as well. Plus the airborne predators. My MIL lives just S of the 74F junction on 74 and every year her hubby traps at least five bobcats, that is along Cottonwood creek that goes through Guthrie and critters follow water. I once saw a mama coon asleep on the top of a highline pole, what drew my attention to that was her kiddos playing at the base of it on the ground. I've seen coyotes jump at least ten foot banks along 33, W of 74.

Can anyone here point me to a pullorum tester in the tulsa or surrounding area? Dont mind driving a bit....
have some birds going to the Tulsa state fair next week and our regular tester may be out of pocket
thanks for your help!

Kass, how's your babies today?

Christina, the Ameraucana that died during surgery was 2 months old and a bantam, he shouldn't have been too old at all.

Nana, I love Delilah. I've got 2 Cochin girls in that same position here. I've got them on eggs but it's only been a couple days, I'm wondering if I should just just take those and stick the Phoenix that are fixing to hatch under them instead. Still deciding.

I had to make a sling for my Cochin boy, I was afraid he was going to dislocate his bad leg at the hip joint trying to flounder around. Robin, you'll be proud of me :) He had food and water in with him last night but he couldn't really get to it because he couldn't balance at all. So when I got him slung up and put his food in front of him he had a little feast. I'm figuring out if there's an easier way to do this but for now at least he's upright and supported. Maybe propping him up with pillows or something would work. He's only 4 1/2 months old, poor thing. But it was surgery or put him down. And while I might've put down some others I have if faced with this decision, I had to try with this one. I didn't have the heart to bring home 2 dead birds yesterday from the vet.

I think the dark NN will make it, but he is very vocal today, don't know what that is about, but he is walking I was up w/ them all night hand feeding or watering every couple of hours.

but the little houdan isn't going to make it I don't know what happened, she had a perfect hatch, and for parts of two days after was running all over the bator, then the night before I was going to move them to the brooder started seeing balance problems just slight at first, then by that next morning they were dramatic balance problems, but still able to stand and move, but would fall and not be able to get back up, then progressing to not able to stand at all. She ate actively and drank, perfectly formed poop, had bright eyes highly interactive???????

Yeah on the NN!!

Don't know what to say on the houdan. I don't have enough experience with hatching birds out to know. I've had several eggs that were viable and growing and had perfectly formed babies in them and were still moving, etc until the day of hatch ... and then they never hatched. It's puzzling (and heartbreaking) to not know what happened or why. Plus we raise turkeys and they are, if not anything else, hard to raise as babies. They can be great one minute and dead 3 hours later. I'd say with balance problems she probably has something neurological wrong with her, but that's just a guess.
