I've lost some special (to me) birds recently to a predator. We've got 4 traps set and have caught the neighbor's cat twice and nothing else. We let the cat go both times and then got to wondering if it was that stupid CAT that had taken the chickens! They've all been small ones so I bet it was. If we catch him again he won't get to go free this time. There's 4' and 6' fences to get over and I can't imagine a coon going to that kind of trouble although it's possible. But we've always seen that cat in our yard and I've seen him scale the stockade fence like it wasn't even there. Plus the chickens probably aren't afraid of a cat so he could've snatched who he wanted to.
That one or the "broody rooster" that was amazing!!!!!Good morning friends and neighbors! It`s going to be another beautiful day and I hope y`all get out there and enjoy it!

He had food and water in with him last night but he couldn't really get to it because he couldn't balance at all. So when I got him slung up and put his food in front of him he had a little feast. I'm figuring out if there's an easier way to do this but for now at least he's upright and supported. Maybe propping him up with pillows or something would work. He's only 4 1/2 months old, poor thing. But it was surgery or put him down. And while I might've put down some others I have if faced with this decision, I had to try with this one. I didn't have the heart to bring home 2 dead birds yesterday from the vet.I think the dark NN will make it, but he is very vocal today, don't know what that is about, but he is walking I was up w/ them all night hand feeding or watering every couple of hours.
but the little houdan isn't going to make it I don't know what happened, she had a perfect hatch, and for parts of two days after was running all over the bator, then the night before I was going to move them to the brooder started seeing balance problems just slight at first, then by that next morning they were dramatic balance problems, but still able to stand and move, but would fall and not be able to get back up, then progressing to not able to stand at all. She ate actively and drank, perfectly formed poop, had bright eyes highly interactive???????
