***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We got 1/8 inch last night...the storm split and missed us. Hoping for more in the next few days. Will be in Jackson Hole Wyoming 9/29 - 10/7 so I'm trying to gt everything ready for hubby to be able to easily take care of the flock. He won't let them free range ...doesn't like to herd them back in at night. So, I'm hitting the local market this week for watermelon and pumpkin and squash.

Well, There's one less coyote around as of a few minutes ago, I was about to go to bed and heard what sounded like a dog barking I thought maybe one of the neighbors dogs had gotten in the trap I had to come back for the .22 I didn't know coyotes made a barking sound like a dog, funny thing though I really didn't expect to catch one I just set the live trap out bated with canned cat food just before dark I figured the trap would have smelled to much like me for a day or so, I'm gonna keep setting it I just need to get more cat food since it seems to work so well LOL

Good thing I went back out it looks like it might rain and my truck windows were open but now that they aren't it probably won't, and to think if it don't rain I'll have to live with being responsible for not ending the drought by not sacrificing my truck to the rain gods....Is there a patron saint of poor choices? :)
Whoop Whoop! on the coyote. Yes, they bark, yip, howl, growl and snarl just like some breeds of dog. We heard three packs last night. With the drought in our area, the edible varmits are disappearing. The gun and shells are ready by the back door. Hubby says he will walk rounds in the evening while I'm gone.

I've been mixing flock ration with cracked oats 1/2 to 1/2 for the geese. It helps bring the protein down to 16%.

It is raining here off and on so the baby chickie doos didn't get to spend the afternoon outside enjoying the sun.

Just got back from Tulsa found some yarn for the crochet swap, just what I needed the colors look well together, they are graduated shades of orange.

Bill great news on the coyote.

Are you still healing well Nana?

We didn't let our oldest work either so he mowed lawns during the summer which gave him a little money. Then once he started in concurrent enrollment at the local college he was able to get on to work in their tutoring department. It was good for him to learn how to manage his time. Driving 25 miles to a part time job though would almost be futile I would think. He'd spend what he made putting gas in the car. What my parents did worked pretty well. They bought an old used vehicle for my sister to use. By the time I was ready for it, my sister could afford to buy her own used car so then I got the car she had been driving. Then when I was able to buy something it passed down to my younger cousin. I'm not sure where it went after that. It was probably dead by then.

Didn't get much rain here ... good and bad that. Need it for the drought conditions and to lift the burn ban which is putting a serious damper on us being able to build the heater for our greenhouse ... but good because my bread oven is still in drying mode and doesn't need to melt in a big rain storm.

Cat got in the garage last night again. No idea how. So we lost yet another chick. We've got to find the hole and get it plugged up today. I need the meat for my freezer this winter.

Eggs seem to be going good in the incubator. We have three thermometers and they all have different temps so we're just going with the average on them and calling it good. I guess in a few days we'll see whether anything is growing. At least the temps and humidity are staying constant this time. Our last incubator the temperature kept fluctuating so much it was hard to keep things moving along. Guess we'll see.

Garden is going good. I have more melons than I know what to do with finally. Our corn is about ready to harvest and my fall tomatoes are finally blooming and the last planting of squash is covered in blooms as well with no squash bugs in sight. Yeah!

Cathie if Matthew is into basketball -- or other sports-- may want to look into being a referee. DH use to referee wrestling & would clear a few hundred on a weekend. Most tournaments the guys would carpool & they put them up in a hotel & such. After his 2 knee surgeries he knew he would never be able to ref again, but still has all his uniforms just in case.... There is some start up cost, but they say small towns have the highest demand. Seriously think how many basketball games go on around you in the average week. I totally understand it not paying to commute--- we spend $600 a month in gas just with DH driving to work & me leaving the house maybe 2 days a wk.
My girls also made part of their money scrapping metal. We had many piles of "treasure" when we purchased the farm. Told them they help us clean it up they could have the money from any metal. I don't even know how much metal we scrapped I would guess well over 1k in junk. Took us almost a yr to get it gone & of course we still find more! Now if we had to split it 5 ways would have been a lot harder for them to build their car funds!!!!

I personally don't crochet, but am waiting for an apt & a lady is crocheting a decorative edge around a fleece blanket. Very cute.... Never seen it before, but maybe its a common thing?? Looks like would make giving handmade blankets a much easier thing to do!!!!

Oh & my dear adventurous Taron brought me a frog the other night while I was laying in bed. Told her it was to small to make frog legs. She released it back outside then returned with a huge frog. I was so nervous she was going to drop that thing & it get loose in my bedroom!

Crocheting edges isn't new, but have to say haven't seen one crocheted onto a fleece blanket before, that would be a quicker way to make a personalized gift, like a baby blanket if you didn't have the time to crochet the whole thing.

He is looking at refereeing at the YMCA but the only problem is their games are on the weekends when he has games, lol. He applied for a job here in Shawnee but that would mean I would have to stay after work and wait for him to get off work for 3 hours. Not sure I am up to that lol. I drive 32-42 miles one way to work that is the reason we bought our little Suzuki because it paid for itself.

Well off for the day I need to get home and get some sewing done if possible.

Heh, I have visitors here from Jackson Hole, WY for the week. :)

Scary sad day for some of my friends in Stillwater today. Getting a call to pick up your child because of a shooting at school would be terrifying to me. I hope they all find peace to move through this.
