bought a bantam chicken from TSC last night. Anyone have and ideas on what breed it may be?

I am doint the same thing... only our beds are 5'x20' and there are 3 of of them! I got one done... two more to go.

The weather has been absolutely beautiful after the rainy day this week. My baby seedlings were out Wed, Thurs, and will be again today. I hope to be planting my seedlings next week outside. I planted my peas, potatoes, and some onions on Monday before the rain came in.

We mulch our garden paths with wood mulch (Free from the Tulsa Green Waste Recycle...) and mulch the beds after they are planted with grass/hay/straw or whatever we can get enexspensively.

We are picking up the wood for our new coop this weekend. And hope to have it finished in 2 weeks, and then getting our chicks soon after that.

Thanks I wish you success w/ yours too. The beds I've been working on lately aren't in the garden, they are where I plan on planting forsythia and blueberry hedges, flowering bulbs, herbs, flowers, strawberries etc....

Are RIR good layers?

There is a man in Catoosa on CL advertising 2 day old chicks for $1.00. It is tempting to buy 10 of them and hope to get 6 hens from that batch and 4 roosters in the freezer.

RIR was not the breed I was looking for.... but they seem a decent breed.

I have no personal experience w/ that breed but usually hear good things about it. (egg and meat wise)
