***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well, finally got a call from someone interested in the turkeys today. They are supposed to be by on Saturday to look at them. Hopefully we'll sell a few of them. Yeah!!

Can't wait for this warm weather that's supposed to arrive this week. Sure tired of the cold and cold and warm and then cold all over again crap. My plants don't like it either. At least the fruit trees had the sense to not bloom early this year like they did last year. Maybe we'll get a good crop of apples for once. The chickens managed to polish off my remaining artichoke plants I started from seed and babied for so long. I guess I'm just not meant to grow artichokes. Every year something happens to them. Sigh. Everything made it through the deep freeze last night thankfully.

Still haven't found the goats we want yet. We really can't get more than two because our space is limited. I keep holding out for waiting for more land but I don't think realistically that's going to happen any time sooner or later so I have to make do with what we have. I'm thinking maybe two pregnant pygmy's would be a good start ... or one pregnant and the other a female for company and to breed later.

I read some where on here that several ppl had there layers drop in egg production on the pellets and they were going to stick to crumbles, my chickens always seemed to have a hard time eating them so i have given up on the pellets i just feed them the crumbles.
Most of my birds are bantam and they all eat pellets. I start mixing pellets with their chick crumbles when they feather out and mix them till the birds are 6 mo. old.

Welcome and lurk to your hearts content.

Yes. Oklahoma is my adopted. After Kentucky, Tennessee, California and 6 years in Japan I guess I like living where I am not from. Michigan is my true home But I am happy living in OK with my Texas/Mississippi Husband who has also lived in Germay and the Middle East.

Will it affect the quality of eggs my hens lay if I feed them kitchen scraps?

It may make their eggs richer. They like variety like we do and vegitables are good for them too.
There is a great chicken "snack" page - I'll try to find it

found it -
Click on the Learning Center tab at the top of this page.
In the learning Center Articles click on "Housing and Feeding you Chickens"
On that page click on the "Chicken Snack Chart"
