***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote:
We had Nubians when the kids were little. They were given to us by a guy we were cutting wheat for. Made a 'hutch' out of palets and put it on the back of the service truck to haul them from Vernon, TX to Southeastern Kansas.

We had a doe and a buck and were suppose to be siblings, but the doe bred and had us 2 cute little does. They were dark brown and white. Lost all of them to a pack of wild dogs when we were gone to work one day.

It was definately a sad, sad day at our house. The human kids (they were about 4 and 9) were going to show them in 4-H. The older boy did get to show the momma one year before they were killed. They were so funny. They knew they weren't suppose to be outside the barbed wire fence, and our hay barn was right there. I would turn in our fairly long driveway and I could see these 4 bodies bounding off the hay and slipping back into the barbed wire pasture. Yes, they knew where they were suppose to be. lol PTL, they didn't damage my garden or get on vehicles or any other dastardly things goats do, but there were fun.

Oh,. the point I was getting at, is a question. Since mine were 'suppose' to be siblings but bred and had kids, are they not like cattle where if you have twins of opposite sexes the female is sterile? She gets too much testosterone from the male when they are in the womb. I know dogs have different sexes in their littters and wondered if cattle were just the exception.

Hello All!!
I'm new to the chicken world, tho I've been in ag my whole life. First of all, I must say that I am very upset at what I have read over the past few pages of thread... We only got an inch and a half of rain in Marlow and I don't think its nice for those of you who got more to be rubbing it in our faces

.
I'm sure it has been asked and answered, but with three threads and thousands of posts, I just don't have the time to look back at all of it lol.
I'm looking for anyone else who raises dominiques here in OK... I know Buffalogal does, near Bowlegs... Anyone else around? I just started with hatchery stock, but want to build up my flock.
I have several breeds as I came down with this terrible affliction of not being able to drive past Orscheln's or Tractor Suppy after chick days started
big_smile.png
. Rehab is working, however. 25 chicks in an old water tank in your living room cures it in 4 or 5 weeks... I can now walk past the babies and just look.

In one of the first threads, there was a breeder/breed list for OK... Is that still around and can someone direct me to it?

Thanks for all the great posts! This website has given me tons of information and I really appreciate all who contribute.

Hope all have a great weekend! It is supposed to be gorgeous. No place I'd rather be than in this great state in the spring and fall.

I can't help you with your question, but just wanted to say HEY. My husband has family in Duncan and in/around Marlow. Will keep you in my prayers for more rain. Heck, need to keep the whole state there too.

After almost 10 days of watching Bambi pretend she was in labor & she wasn't we finally have 2 beautiful little girls!!!! Never saw her in labor, we found her just after she kidded. Only saw her push out the placenta. The human kids are fighting over names of course.

Congrats on the new additions. They are so cute.

Nana I would be more than happy to take your birds, if you were this way. Hate that you can't make the sale, but I understand. I let Bambi control my every move the past 2 wks, I wanted to make sure I was close by for her first kidding.

Who else is making the Newcastle sale?? Weather is suppose to be amazing, should be a packed sale!

We are hoping to be at the sale.

McGuyver had dominiques but I believe she no longer does. She hasn't been on in a while, but may be able to help you find another breeder-- just try to send her a PM.

POOPS- is like a family reunion. With an OKIE family & chickens.

critterwomen - we had a stray dog kill one of our goats.... was awful!
