***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have chicks hatching under two broodies...eggs from the incubator...and egg hatching in the incubator.

Two calves born yesterday are doing great...reason for missing Newcastle.

Asparagus is grown in raised beds here. 12 inch high beds back filled with sandy loam mixed with composted leaves and manure and then top dressed each year with compost. Roots should be planted 6 - 8 inches deep and make a 24 inch circle of roots and larger. Make a trench and spread the roots out. As the crown grows, you back fill a few inches at a time until the ground is level. A bed that is properly planted will last for decades. Our first bed is now 16 years old and the second bed is 7 years old. I would assume if you had a big enough pot that was deep enough to support the roots, you could plant one crown per pot. A 4x4 foot bed could hold 4 - 5 plants.

Enjoy your day.

Broody hens can be so unpredictable-- hope it works out LonnyandRinda.

Had a good time at Newcastle. Was nice to see a few folks hadn't seen in a while. Kids had a blast especially Lucas. His new chicks are all settled in & he hasn't stopped playing with them, poor chickens they may be loved to death!
I managed to get 2dz Speckled Sussex eggs & 5 golden lakenvelder chicks. There was loads of birds I am sure the sale is still going & we left 2 hours ago.

Two weeks to POOPS!!!!!

We had a good time also at Newcastle. Lucas sure looked happy with his new chicks. You got off lucky with the Lakenvelder's and the Blue Americaunas. Great price on both.

I love the newcastle auction and was sad to miss it last night. Sounds like by next spring they may need to start the auction at 3. It has gotten so big. But compared with lots of people on BYC, we are so lucky to have such a great auction at our disposal. Jcat...thats awesome on the lakenvelders, I would have upped the price on those for you atleast if I would have been there and able to bid. ;p

My hubby is almost done building the coop! He made it mostly from free pallets.

I went to pick up two goats at the Newcastle auction and walked around for a bit. Sadly I was banned from getting any birds. They sure did have some pretty ones. And my run is almost done!!!!

Hi all,
I am looking forward to meeting everyone at poops. Haven't been on here for a while except to check out the auctions. I am so excited to say we are almost done with the new coop & juvenile run. DH has been working so hard on it.
My dad had had an old two bedroom Moble home he had used for storage, that we gutted & turned into the new coop complete with breeding & youngster pens.
