***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Still no new baby goats!!!  We have lost our best dog, haven't seen any sign of her in 24 hours. She never runs alone, so I can only imagine what has happened to her. Will need another big mean dog to replace her. We have the 3 boys still, but she was by far the dog that kept the most visitors afraid to leave their cars & she was the most obedient dog we had.

Anyone in the Chickasha area window shopping has to check out the antique stores. One had an amazing collection of egg scales & old egg baskets. The prices were extreme, but the products were neat to look at. The store next door had a ceramic Cochin that was so cute & other chicken stuff throughout the store.

Everyone get out & enjoy the weather!!!  Great day to build new chicken pens to add to your collections!!!

I live in Anadarko! I will definitely have to go check that out! I plan on moving some heifers and new babies around then working outside and with my coop! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Lonnyandrinda my broodies have always hatched eggs from my incubator without any problems. I love watching momma hens raise up babies!!!!

Thanks! I was just worried because she was about 2 1/2 feet up in a nest box. Apparently the first little guy fell out of the nest box while I was gone this morning- when I got home and checked on her she was on the floor covering him and two other hens were in "her" box covering the other two eggs while they laid their own. They were already pipped, so I just tucked them under her on the floor and made sure water and chick food were within reach. I am IN LOVE with how she is already taking care of the little tyke! Also had to rig up a ramp to the coop door real quick so when she decides to take them out they can get back in Hubby is not so crazy about the idea (he wants as many eggs laid as possible LOL) but she is being a GREAT mom so far!

Well went back out an hour later and she had abandoned her fluffed chick, just hatched wet and cold chick, and pipped egg to move back up to the top next box.

Put them back under her. I will move her down to a floor box tonight- hope she doesn't go back to the nest box before I can check on them in the morning. Gosh this is more nerve wracking than taking care of my own kids!

I went to the Herbal Affair in Sand Springs today. I bought a painted 6 hole nest box. It was too cute and the price was doable.
I'm being told May 12 will be the chicken house build date. It better be b/c I might bring home chicks from poops.

I had fully intended to come to Newcastle this weekend but have come down with a respiratory infection and just don't feel like catching birds and making the trip, we will probably come the first weekend in May, I should have some LF black and blue cochins; large barred rocks, toulouse geese, white faced black spanish and possibly some hatching eggs.

Bo

Blue LF huh....mmmmmm....

i alway have my broody's in there own contained area the first week or so after a hatch- for my sanity- dragon is in the studio in a parakeet cage, her babies hatched, one is probably all cochin, and one is hers- a cute little nn bug

meanwhile, trying to contain any other broodies, any trick to it?
