Is there a smell?
Mitzi awesome to see you post! Taron is doing great, she has been hatching non stop for "customers" & a few for herself. She got braces a few wks ago so that has been loads of fun! So far we have only encountered 1 snake, but seen eggs disappearing. The snake battle will be in full force soon. Once I got a clear bill of health the house started & we may move into a semi finished house within the next few months. Have to decide what is worse, a house still in progress or staying in the 950 sq ft single wide.
Ksane, glad to see you post![]()

I think your guesses on gender are right. Any breed can sometimes hatch without a tail. It makes me wonder if the rumpless one has Araucana in him/her though. ( I can't tell the sex on that one, can you?) Dang, they're pretty though.I am going to bring some blue ameracaunas to the auction on saturday but I need some help. I think one of them is a roo and one is rumpless. My question is is one of these a roo and is the one without tail feathers an ameracuana or just an EE. I really don't want to look like and idiot and say they are something they are not. Please help.
#1 rumpless
#2 Pullet?
#3 Pullet?![]()
#4 Roo?
Nana, those Cochin boys are just beautiful! I wish hens could look as flashy and stately as roosters.
MommaRaven, could it be some sort of a tumor?
X 2 so you can give her a good inspection, if the area is raw and irritated there is a reason you need to find, any discharge, dirty feathers that could have been against her skin causing a severe "diaper rash" type situation, running discharge from the vent called vent gleet which is a yeast infection. See how firm or squishy the bulge is. See if the feathers are hiding an injury site that may have gone unnoticed.can you give her a warm bath, that way you can get her relaxed and look at it closer, if she is egg bound, the warm bath would also help
Mine are doing great, raising some babies for food though, and a few to replace some of the older layers. That araucana boy I had Ari has his own little harem at TonyO's place, and I am looking for a home for Little man the new little araucana male looks like he will be hanging out at Tony's place too. I wouldn't mind keeping him by three roos are just to much for my girls they all look ragged and bare backed from the roos. The dubias are thriving and the freezer is working great as a dubia house, I did just feed out the meal worms they never took off well and were just a bother. How's your group, Kass?? I've still got 5 Ara girls, the 3 I got from Banjo last June are just adorable. I love them!
