***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Update on my poor hen. I gave her a warm bath and felt of the mass. It is soft and squishy and her vent looks clean,. I massaged the mass area and her vent started working in and out so I put her back in the warm water and she expelled some poop. I did not feel an egg or anything hard. Here is a picture of what it looked like after soaking in the warm bath.....
To help the raw places heal (just in case it is a yeast infection) apply apple cider vinegar to the raw areas using a cotton ball. The vinegar will act as an astringent to help neutralize the ph. You may have to treat the ares several days.

Mitzi, It's good to see you back. Glad to hear Channing has become "King of his Palace".

Sounds like several of you are experiencing chicken math explosions!

Loaded the second Hovabator with 42 eggs and candled those in the first Hovabator and have eggs in the Little Giant as a hatcher....chicks are cheeping in the brooder....

Thank you for the comments on my bird pictures.

has she been wormed recently? I ask because one of my cochins had an area soft and squishy and when i wormed her, the area that looked swollen went down- just a thought

Good Morning!

Roadrunners might get a chick that has wondered away from mom but mostly they eat insects, scorpions, lizards, snakes and rodents.

I meant to tell you my Dubia are multiplying like crazy. I pretty much just left them alone all winter except food and water and their population exploded. The Hissers were just too big and hard shelled. I had to cut them apart for the birds so I fed them off as fast as I could. I was just this week trying to decide on a different container for the Dubia. I do have a few big fish tanks that I may be able to use, 4' and 5' tanks.
The converted freezer is working really well for me, lined the whole bottom in cheap kitty litter and put wire fencing squares wrapped in old denim for them to live on and in instead of the egg crates, the freezer I used has a small shelf built in perfect for keeping the water dish above frass and much cleaner. I did have to put a smear of vasoline around the top inside to keep the ants out.
