***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well my husband wouldn't let me get my Silkies because gas is too expense... I was a little dramatic and cried in the parking lot of Logan's lol if anyone has/knows of any Silkies for sale (minus the ones in Paden) PLEASE let me know! I'm dying to have some of those beautiful babies!

Lenny and Squiggy are available. To brighten your flock or as Roos for Stew. PM for details.

Okay, this was kind of mean. I have a bachelor pen. But, lord love a duck, I'm a bad chicken farmer because I just don't know what to do with these extra roos! I don't know how to process them. That would be ok if I had the equipment. I don't need them for breeding. I wish I had thought about this earlier and had a plan in place. A little help?

Take them to an auction!
You could offer them free on Craigslist but I wouldn't-- too many "free" roosters have bad ends- target practice, cock fighting, baiting.... I do offer them fairly cheap there and they sell pretty good, 5 for a young one 10 for a mature one, 15 if it's a special breed or color. If I have a bunch of young ones I ask $2 each if they buy 10 or more. Then THEY can pay to feed them as they grow!

Coral! That is wonderful on the job change! I know you are thrilled!

i lost Rascal this morning to a impacted crop, then this afternoon noticed Jewel, my miracle wynadotte, not acting right, prolapse- she was an older hen and a rescue also-

some of you may remember her from the first poops...:) not particularly friendly but beautiful to watch

Where are you located? We are currently driving from Meeker to Paden every day to check on the cows we moved to our lease. Perhaps a chicken train could be worked out to get your Silkies to you.

Who is all going to the Newcastle auction tomorrow night?

We've decided to go another direction here at the farm as far as what breeds stay and what goes. So tomorrow we will be selling our entire Australorp flock, 9 hens and 1 roo. Also a bunch of chicks from them we hatched out earlier this year, probably around 3 months old.

We're also getting out of the Button quail and accessories. They are nice inside birds. We have 2 mated pairs that will go with cages. Also 2 bachelor roos and each will also have a cage that goes them. Also have additional cages but for the breeder, we have an 8 hole, mated pair cage complex.

Last auction had some inquiries so will see how they go, I'll have some week old BUCKEYE chicks

(not hatchery stock) Will also have an extra adult roo.

Couldn't go down without some coturnix quail...all different colors.

Also a great Welsummer hen, some adult EE, and some chicks 3 months old or so.

All of our birds are NPIP. Just look for the "Stoney Creek" labels

Hope to see you all there!

Wow just called to check on hubby at the Coweta auction- he said it is WAY buyer's market tonight. Adult pairs going for $2 per bird, most hatching eggs $1 per dozen, most chicks for $.75-1 each. Not good for the birds we took to sell but it makes me nervous... guess I forgot the lesson I learned when I let him go by himself last fall....
