***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Robin, 1 of my Silkies that hatched 10 days ago had the identical problem, plus its toes were really crooked. I cut a bandaid longways and taped it up exactly like at http://poultryhelp.com/spraddle.html I had to replace the bandaid a few times but kept it taped for 3 days. By the end of 3 days he could run like the others and even his toes straightened out completely.

This evening when I came home from work, looked in the house and found 3 eggs!! How can I tell what hen they came from?
Also I have 7 that are older right at 6 mos old and then 5 more that are 3-4 months old.
Will they sleep in the nest box that they lay in?

lol, you will never know with them being all brown egg layers! unless you watch them lay and get the egg right after! most hens will have a certain shape of egg that they will lay continuously, but unless you catch them, you may never actually know who is laying what...congrats though!

oh and you dont want them sleeping in the nest box, night time is when they do their most pooing it seems....if they dont have a roost, make them one post haste!

Also I have used a cup to set babies in after taping their legs to keep them from falling over on their backs.

Is Lola one of my babies? We had very few Roos out of those hatches. Rebecca is going to be jealous! How does Lawrence (of Arabia). Larry for short sound.
Well one of the blues I got from you at POOPS just started bowing up to one of my other cochin roosters. When I got a good look at his saddle feathers they were pointed but I am telling you just a couple of weeks ago I picked that bird up and she/he did not have pointed saddle feathers. WTC!!!!

Awe...the milestones in chicken stewardship....I just watched an egg come out of the egg chute.
Awww yes, interesting but disturbing sight, especially when you see one lay a huge egg... All I could think was *OUCH*!!!

I don't know if I checked in on this thread yet. I live in Choctaw and started with Chickens in July. I have been reading a lot in the forums and learning from some friends and family also who have chickens.

Okie style!!!

Rule #1 for Zombies. Double tap.
Which rule is it about checking the toilets??? hehehe! Because of that movie I now check the toilets before going...

Yes, I got her from you at POOPS. I have 2 little black pullets now so I can keep him/her. DH pointed out the tail feathers. I can't believe I didn't notice sooner. He is going to be huge and beautiful. I will get pics tomorrow weather and schedule permitting.
I think mine grew the pointed feathers over night. Even Doc had not noticed them before...

Finally! Somebody who knows what chow chow is! I have a big mess of green tomatoes I pulled from my small garden, and I don't eat fried foods much, anymore (which is a shame, this time of year). You guys have any suggestions what to do with them? I've almost decided on balsamic pickled tomato chunks, but I've never canned green tomatoes, so I'm open to new ideas.
You could roast them and make green tomato sauce. I bet that would be awesome!!!

Nana I got 1st 2nd 3rd 4th & 5th on cockerels 3rd & 5th on pullets.

Way to go Don!!! Congrats to you!!!

So we got a message on Facebook last night from Keith Dunn's son saying he had passed away on Friday and his service was yesterday. Keith or Stimpy to some of us was one of the first people on the Okie BYC and was always a wonderful, funny, kind man to spend time with. He is survived by his wife Lou who like Stimpy is just a fabulous woman.
Heart is heavy to lose one in our small chicken family.

Quote: ok, he is an unhappy little guy, but he is hobbled and able to sit upright, under mama and complaining... how can such a tiny thing have such strong lungs!LOL! i had him propped up in a pan with washcloths to get him standing- then when i took him out he did sit and not flip back- so he's with ebony and th siblings-

That is so sad.
