Oh my gosh, log day at work, today. I work weekends with a local animal rescue. And today... I will put it this way, today was the busiest I've ever seen it.

As soon as I arrive, the first thing I am told to do is run a foster to the groomer's in Petsmart. But the dog is late for his appointment, so I'm running to make it, and when I arrive I wasn't told what they wanted done, so I didn't know what to tell the groomer.

So I ran back and asked the dog's foster what she wanted done, but as it turned out there was a change of plans and some people wanted to meet the dog.

Well he's adopted and as soon as the paperwork is done I need to go fax and copy it.

Sooo, I run to the copy machine, copy, run back so that they aren't waiting on me. Next thing I know, I need to feed some of the shelter dogs who missed feedings. Sooo, I take them to the training room one. By. One. And wait for them to eat!

After that, I basically ran circles helping with paperwork and faxing and copying more paperwork. And then some of the bored dogs need exercise. So I exercised about 15 dogs--out of 23 adoptable dogs. Then someone needed help feeding the adoptable cats! When I finally catch a break, right after lunch, I am completely knocked out... and as a result... I fell asleep in my seat at work...

Lucky for me, an associate woke me up after about a minute. So I am undeniably exhausted, my legs are sore, I am achy and sooo worn out. I probably fell asleep because I didn't get a cup of coffee.

(Yes, I drink coffee, and am made fun of for that. But I'm the local freak-girl anyways.

Oh goodness. These temps never bothered me until I got chickens. Now I dread the cold for their sake. I too worked on the main big girl coop and on my big babies coop. Then a few of my 3 week olds were found roaming around the garage unattended. My daughter put them back and the next time she went back two were sitting perched on the edge. It's a HUGE deep container but they now graduated to a wire dog crate. They love the room! Hope they can keep in there until spring...
hate this cold!

So my sick hen which I thought was egg bound is sick with vent gleet. I never knew chickens could produce such a smell!!! She has been cooped up in the dog crate for 5 days now and I have been treating her with apple cider vinegar plus those capsules (Im too lazy to look at the name of it but its the same cultures that yogurt has since she wont eat yogurt for me I put it in other stuff). She wouldn't eat. I even tried her favorite egg yolk. Last night I cleaned her vent like I have every day with Epson salt water and her pubic bones (or with chickens are those her pelvis. Do they even have a pubic?) were protruding. Super skinny sick hen. So I started to read up more and didn't think about her being depressed. Maybe she needs to get out and stretch and see the other girls while it's still a little warm. So I put her out and she free ranged and actually scratched (she didn't do that before I started treating her because she felt so bad). She did what she could while she had the energy then went back to the coop so I went ahead and put her up in the crate so she could rest. Don't think she needs too much excitement. So any way, I am glad to say that she did really good today. I can only hope that her appetite gets better and stops having the smelly nasty poop.

As for my chicks they are getting HUGE already!!! I'm already starting to see the difference in boys and girls... and may have a lot more boys. Yikes!

Why does my fave baby have to be a boy?!?!? Sniff sniff... he has such a fun personality too... Oh my hand looks sickly in this picture. Please ignore it.

All of my escape artists before they were moved to the big pen. 3 turned out blue splash while the rest are white as snow. Pretty color! Just though I would share since I finally took some pics.

I'll try to get you some body shots
The monitor for my computer in the bedroom/loft is a 32" TV. So he's my desktop wallpaper up here :-D

True5-I never cared about the weather until I got chickens either. I used to love it when it snowed and got icy because it was so pretty outside and so warm inside. Now I hate it and can't stand it that my birds are cold :-(

Robin, I consolidated a bunch of hens and put roosters in 10x10 pens. The girls do fine together so they're all together in like 4 different big yards with wooden buildings for their coops. I love my boys but I want the girls packed together and warm for the winter. The Ara boy did get to keep his girls, that group is pretty attached to each other now. The roosters who got a group of extra girls are very pleased with themselves. They can't imagine what they did right to get a bunch more girls lol I feel bad for my boys that have to live alone but at least they have roofs and they'll be fine.

Edited for yet another typo :-D

are you putting acv in her water also? i have seen that work wonders on it

Quote: well, currently the big coop has 21, tripple layers on the windows, extra litter and a heater- just peeked and they look fine, the porch coop has 4, including OBrian and Shasta, with a heat lamp and litter and tripple wrapped with plastic, so i can keep a close watch on them- and then the guiea gang are on the porch as always- hopefully i have everything covered... i ususally like winter, but i worry about those fluffies
