***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I would be interested in going in on an order for speckled sussex with someone.

Ok. I plan on ordering from Ideal Nursury or McMurry's. Unless you have another place your recommend? They don't seem to be available unitl April or May???

So we will have to wait a few months.

I can place the order. I live in Tulsa, and my transportation is very limited so we would have to figure out how you all are going to get them. But I live withing walking distance to the post office so I can pick them up and get them in the brooder right away when they arrive at the post office. If it is bad weather I will make my hubby go get them before work.

Any other places you can recommend to order? I don't need show quality, I just want some pretty heritage breeds.

Had a chick hatch out last night on day 20. A Buff Orpington from what I could see. This morning, two more. One is another BO and the other appears to be a White Silkie.
Cool! My silkie chick is doing fine.... not enough toes and white legs though - oh well... It is happy enough right now in the brooder with a feather duster but is eagerly awaiting company. I have two more of 4 big eggs that are pipped. A potential naked neck and a ee cross.

How well do your mixed hatches do - with a small silkie and other bigger chicks?

Yes that is me! I accepted you, thanks for looking me up! I took a brief look at your "likes" and we actually have quite a bit common interests. Makes it so much nicer when I find someone else who enjoys the same things. Conversations are more interesting.

I promise I'm not one of those stalkers though (I don't go searching all through your stuff and "like" all your past pictures from years ago lol). I'm pretty easy going and like to just see how everyone is on facebook and will post something occasionally.

@TRUE5 Thanks for the friend add! Stalk away! Lol. :)

Have you tried Meyer?

So far my mixed hatches have done very well. I usually hatch out Buff Orpington, Black Australorps and assorted Silkies. I keep them together in the brooder, then into an 8x12 hoop coop and when they get old enough, they get separated into breeding pens or sold, as the case may be. Doesn't seem to be any problem between the two larger breeds and the Silkies.

I have Black, White, Splash, Blue and Cuckoo Silkies that I am breeding.

I have a White smooth feathered Cochin with a White Frizzle Cochin pullet, but she has not started laying yet. I also have a Black and White Frizzle Cochin rooster with a White smooth feathered hen, but she is not laying at the present.

Robin, I found the picture of Lillith on the Cochin thread for comparison. He's 16 wks old here. Nana, I also saw pics of some of your Cochin's there, they're so beautiful! There was a Splash rooster and he was amazing. Man, those Cochin's are such awesome birds.
Thank you! I have two breeding pens now. 1) is Big Blue (dark blue splash) over four Black hens. And 2) my big Black Bart (the President) over two light Splash hens, two Blue hens and two dark Splash hens. They are all laying except for a Black hen that is broody and sitting on a golf ball. I love the Cochins too and of course love my Wyandotte as well. By the way, the Deleware Bantams are slowing down on eggs and will start back up again in a few weeks. do you still want eggs this spring?
